Cat boat hull as slow power boat???

Are these hulls worth considering as an engine only boat? Drawbacks??

They are pretty and seem to be a lot of boat for the length.

Thanks,
Rich

Check out Wood Boat 135. There is a Launch in there based on a cat boat
plan.

Rich,
Cat boats make damn fine motor boats. Just make sure it has a nice engine.
Something that goes "pooketa pooketa pooketa...."

My grandfather had a 24-foot Thurber with a one-lung make-and-break
engine that made just that sound.

Choices for the proper sounding engine???

Are they still made? Any good as marine engines with today's expectations?
It would be great to go chugging , or poketing along!

you could get the same effect from a modern engine by fouling the
sparkplugs, damaging the spark plug wires, putting dirt in the fuel tank,
or anything else you can think of that will cause the engine to miss, cough,
snort, and sometimes backfire.

I'll let you know when the body finally rots off my car - my engine must be
about right for "marine" use from the description ;-))

Try Lindsay Technical Books. They have instructions on making these engines,
including making the castings. Good luck. Otherwise, look for old farm engine
shows or clubs. Lots of these there.
