I've been programming for 15 years and for the sake of my sanity, I've been considering jobs in other fields. Maybe carpentry or maybe even boat building. The problem is, I have very little experience with either, aside from my personal boat building projects at a beginner level. I was thinking maybe I could try for some menial entry level job (helping move and set up equipment, etc) and eventually gain enough experience to make a reasonable salary. The question is: Is this even likely? Are there many jobs out there for boat builders in Florida? I'm married with kids, so I have to think of them too... ie: I need enough $ to keep them fed. Any career advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks Tom I bought a cheap plywood flatbottomed dinghy from two guys who built one a day in a basement. 150 bucks cash, painted blue. Common lumber, ring nails. Abused it for 10 years, then used it as a plug for a glass copy which I sold after a further ten years, for costs. I would buy another tomorrow.
