Hi,
I know there have been other discussions on painting but I would like to hear from those of you who didn't use the standard "marine" paint. I'm pretty sure there were at least a couple of people who used exterior latex or alkalyd paints. Personally I don't see why a good exterior paint would be just as good. What do you have to say about your decision to use the cheaper alternative? Thanks |

The latex paint didn't stick as well but was pretty good. The oil lasted better. For shiny yacht style finishes the marine paints are nicer. Nobody ever paints working boats with shiny yacht paints! My S&G kayaks are painted with plain old TremClad or the Home Hardware
equivilent. It's tough, comes in lots of colors, and is bug-simple to apply. Never any problem getting a color match, long as there's a Home Hardware somewhere in the neighborhood.
