You're right! I should've had my forward looking sonar aimed right at
the surface, as whatever it was did not appear at the surface even
after we hit it. Our shaft was not made by Beneteau, but clearly it
must have been inferior French steel!

Did you get SeaTow to haul you back to the dock, or Tow-boats US?

The beauty of working with my club is that I made a quick call and
they brought us to the travel lift using the service boat.

Yeah that sounds nice.. We do not have that service here, unless you
call a friend.

Don't feel to bad, I've bent so many shafts and propellors the owner
of one boat named his beach house the Broken Wheel Ranch and hung all
my bent props around the place.. If you have exposed shafts, struts
and props thats going to happen if you use the boat.

PS in 30 + yrs underway I've only been towed in once. I bent the
shaft, broke the strut, and tore several big ass holes in a nice
shrimp net. I refer to that night as the night we caught thoses shrimp
worth about 400 dollars each.

Not bad. I've been towed once in 13 years so you're way ahead!
Now how many times have you supplied a tow? I've done it at least once
per season, usually for other sailboats and a couple of Jetskis.

I have a 1,600 ton freight and towing licences. I've towed several
hundred things including bullwinkle.

Ah! No, I meant under recreational circumstances, such as when out
with Redcloud!

I wonder if Bob has a towing endorsement on his license. Oh wait, no
license. I hope he didn't accept money for the tow.
