Why are you limiting the size to ''18-22 ft. '' ?

I need some recommendations for a pocket cruiser in the

size 18-22 ft.
It must be trailerable. I've looked at the more obvious

ones such as
the Catalina 22 and WWP-19. Any others I should look at?

At Compacs
really worth the premium?

Thanks in advance,

Ben

You have a point there, Bubbles. Whenever anybody asks a question in
this forum, one should always run an internet search on all possible
info revealed in their posts instead of assuming that it's a real
person with a real question. Especially if they appear to be
interested in really sailing.

If you had any background in the arts, cinema or otherwise, you'd have
known who Ben Turpin was to begin with. He was insured against his
eyes uncrossing....and I learned about him in my HS film class. Later
I saw some of his work at the Thalia during their comedy greats
festival. I don't know a single person who's so out of touch and
ignorant that they don't know who Turpin, Harold Loyd or Keaton were.
Beyond that the topic posted is a sure sign of a troll.
You and Scotty are so eager to crawl up someone's ass it's pathetic.
Don't forget to inform people that you don't even own a sailboat, and

A fairly big star at one time, Ben Turpin can still be seen on TCM and
clips of his films are used in TV and print media/ads. The cross-eye'd
comic is still known by plenty of people, even if he doesn't come up
in casual conversations for trailer trash like Scotty and Doug. Of
course they HAVE heard of Paris Hilton and know all about HER.
Ben Turpin appeared in over 220 films and even worked with Laurel &
Hardy on the year of his death.

Oh boy! I can't wait. You should get Ben Turpin to play the
warden.
Why, just the other day Me, Jonny Ray and Billy Bob were
watching the NASCAR race when Billy Bob turned to me and
said, I wonder why we don't see Ben Turpin on the TV box
much anymore. He's our favorite actor. He's almost as
famous=s as that Scotty Doohan fellow from Star Track.

Size matters because I am storing it at home so the

overall length of
boat and trailer should be less than 30 feet. Here are my

parameters:

Towing vehicle is Ford F150.
2 Adults, 1 teen on board.
Sailing on protected water, salt and fresh.
Weekend overnighters.
Family used to roughing it.
Driving up to 600 miles for sailing trips.
Shallow water capable.
Minimum wood.
Easy take down and set up.
Porta potty, cooler small stove ok.
Prefer a boat that has character.

Mac 26 C. Notice the ''C'' , not an ''X''. The older Mac 26
was a good little boat. Comes with a Swing board or a dagger
board. Fits your needs to a "T".

So your max towing weight is around 2k# including the trailer? That's
going to limit you to boats of about 1500# disp (empty weight really)
or less.

Here's two boats that would be easy to trailer and relatively
practical

Here's a Flicka- great boat, not really considered "trailerable" by
most

Here's a boat with some charachter
http://www2.boats.com/listing/boat_d...ityid=17117111

A little out of the ordinary but a good sailing boat... I happen to
like flush decks myself

Here's a boat with the maximum amount of room & comfort

You might also keep an eye out for a Sovereign or a Nimble if you
think the Cornish Crabber is too expensive or too old fashioned
looking.

Should have said, what year & model? The ratings vary widely.... I
just saw an ad for the 2007 F-150 claiming a tow limit of 10500# which
is a heck of a lot.... but that's only one specific model & the other
models drop down to half that. The older trucks I'm more familiar with
have lower ratings.

The way to tell what the vehicle will tow, look at the CGVWR (total
weight the frame & drivetrain will get rolling & stop again) subtract
the vehicles weight, with fuel, passengers, luggage, etc... adds up
quickly. Then take about 75% of the remainder as a weight that it can
reasonably pull under real conditions, unless you are going dead slow
on cool days over flat terrain. Then remember that trailers are heavy,
500# and up.

We pulled a 2200# boat with a vehicle rated to pull 4k#, that worked
pretty well. You want to be able to keep up with traffic on hills & on
hot days.

That's my point, I didn't see anything that indicated what the tow
rating would be on that particular Ford F-150. Rating will be based
on engine, transmission, rear end gear ratio, and number of wheels
driven. And it will be the lessor of the actual tow rating or the
Gross Combined (your analysis I deleted) and normally Gross Combined
will be the limiter.

However most Ford F-150's will tow in excess of 2K, some far in
excess.
