Looks like a total loss. http://www.foxnews.com/photoessay/0,4644,1759,00.html Joe Does not look good, but the situation is not clear yet as they had partially dismantled the vessel to permit restoration and it seems to me that they removed the deck to facilitate this as well as all the masts and spars which are in the old dockyard in Chatham so maybe it is not quite as bad as the aerial pictures show.. There is concern that the iron frames may have warped. The restoration was going to cost £20 million before this happened.. Fire is being treated as 'suspicious'. Old timber, especially oak, is really hard and does not easily catch fire. |
