127.0.0.1 is 'localhost', how any computer sees itself.
I could run without an NNTP posting host header at all
(as in this poast), but I prefer to show localhost to
confuse those who are not computer literate. My Gravity
newsreader (in conjunction with Altopia's policies) allows
me to customize headers to fit my needs. Even my Path.
As in this poast. *g*

Kewl. I can't do any of that with Outlook Express. I think I can do it with XNews.

This is good:
"Path:authen.yellow.readfreenews.net!green.octanew s.net!news-out.octanews.net
!mauve.octanews.net!nx01.iad01.newshosting.com!new shosting.com!news.alt.net!
Capt.JG.the netkkkop.runs.from.the.NOTB!not-for-mail"

Nice that you can fake the path...
Can you tell anything from my path? Path:
authen.yellow.readfreenews.net!green.octanews.net! news-out.octanews.net!indigo.octanews.net!authen.yellow .readfreenews.net.POSTED!not-for-mail

And this is good:

"X-Liberal: When I grew up I learned better"

Attaboy!

Cheers,
Ellen

Well, OE is a mail client, not a real newsreader, so it has
limits. XNews is very flexible, in some ways even better than
Gravity, but I find the user interface awkward. I do have a
copy loaded for use with my second news feed, for when I really
want to cause a stir.

This is good:
"Path:authen.yellow.readfreenews.net!green.octanew s.net!news-out.octanews.net
!mauve.octanews.net!nx01.iad01.newshosting.com!new shosting.com!news.alt.net!
Capt.JG.the netkkkop.runs.from.the.NOTB!not-for-mail"

I thought you might get a kick out of that. *g* Altopia allows
'pre-loading' the path via your newsreader as long as the
addition is obviously NOT a valid news server.

I'm familiar with octanews / readfreenews.
Ever hang out in alt.free.newsservers?
Not a bad place to at least monitor.

And this is good:

Attaboy!

These days I've gone far enough to the right to consider
dubya to be a liberal wimp. The last true conservative
on the American political scene was Saint Goldwater.

I put in on my list of subscribed groups. I'll check it out. Thanks. Never hurts
to know some free news servers in case mine crashes or is down for maintenance, etc.
It's free so you can't even complain when it goes down. But it's been real reliable lately.

What a guy! What a guy!
Yup, you got that right. Goldwater was the best. Very inspiring. I wish his son would
start running. But, I don't know if he's just as conservative as his great Dad... President
Bush's not been very conservative, your right. He's better than a Democrat but not
much better. If only he'da been another Reagan at least. But what we really need is
a libertarian. Somebody who the first thing they do is cut big government in half. Then cut
it in half again the second term. The next thing make the armed forces twice as big and go
kick some freaking Islamic fascist terrorist booty.... And while they're doing that close the
freaking borders to all those illegals coming swarming like roaches across. Then legalize
pot. Tax the hell outta it to pay for the big army. People would mellow out and figure they
were getting their moneys worth...

Cheers
Ellen

While I understand the reason for the sentiment, there is also a
reason gov't has gotten as big as it is. You have to go back to
Roosevelt the First...

See, this is why I disagree with the Shrub. There is absolutely
no reason to put America's sons and daughters in harms way. The
oil in the Middle East is generally about two miles deep. Which
means that there is no way it would be adversely affected by a
little bit of radioactivity on the surface. Pull all our troops
out, and turn the whole freaking place into a puddle of glass.

And while they're doing that close the

I prefer the solution that got Doug MacArthur fired by Truman

Then legalize pot.

I won't argue with that one.

Sounds good to me. Make an example outta them. They understand
power. And if they're all dead the ones who're left someplace else won't
wanna mess with us.

If'n JFK had done that with Cuba we wouldn't have half the
problems in the world that we're currently facing.

During the Korean War, when the ChiComs started flooding south
to aid the North Koreans, General MacArthur wanted to use dirty
nukes to create a 10 mile wide radiation belt across the border.
The Chinese troops could still have crossed, but they would have
dropped dead from radiation poisoning with 72 hours.

They shoulda done something like that. But making everything
radioactive for ten miles times maybe a hundred miles might
pollute the whole earth. But they coulda been sneaky and crop dusted
the whole place with anthrax or something like that.

Cheers,
Ellen
