Joe wrote: Only a fool wants to be hit by cold waves and spray.. Not so bad. The masthead didn't disappear once. Nice video though, thanks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPYod...elated&search= I would like to see the vessel in the same waves ("marejada" means sea surge or swell) only running before them, not plowing head-on. -signed- Injun Ear (formerly known as Eagle Eye) |

I liked the music as well..Perfect for plowing thru waves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPYod...elated&search= I would like to see the vessel in the same waves ("marejada" means sea surge or swell) only running before them, not plowing head-on. Would be boring...She's a 13 -15 kt boat at best. You can tell the skipper had her hooked up, and was pushing her hard in the jetties for filming effects... Once she got in deep water I bet it mellowed out mucho. Joe -signed- Injun Ear (formerly known as Eagle Eye) |

Hey Joe... What was the function of that vessel shown in the video?
It seemed like the accomodations where rather elaborate based on it's length. Which may not mean anything signifigant... I'm just a nov- ice/layperson wondering. I'm certain with your background... you would know. Thanks Bill |

Gilligan I gave up the 100 ton boats because of thousands of hours standing out in the cold, in the middle of the gulf, soaked in salt spray chapped by freezing 20+ kt bone chilling winds off loading cargo at drilling rigs dripping mud, drillwater, caustic soda, black magic, ect.... ect ect...you can not tell me squat about manning the helm out in the elements. This is a 50 ton twin screw...see the outside stern controls? http://www.damcomarine.com/boats/ima...boat_deck5.jpg FN SUCKS, but the boats are a blast, nimble fast, exciting..I can make them dance. http://www.carlmaples.com/oil_field_...bg_thun_bt.jpg I'd much rather stand in a warm glass box a couple stories above the bad weather and sip hot Coffee. http://english.people.com.cn/200505/29/images/boat.jpg Joe |

Maybe you have a better monitor, I could not see tow gear thru the mist and spray. Many American supply and standby boats are classed as towing vessels by doing the same thing, put a tow doubler plate at the pivot point, and deck structures to support towing, but never put a winch on deck. Can you guess why this was done OTN? Anyone? Better them than me!!...... and I agree.... work in those conditions for long periods and it becomes old. If you look at the shot from behind, you can see were the water gets deeper and all the white caps dis-appear, a 1/2 mile or soo father offshore.....still looks like a wedge yourself in somewhere kinda trip. "Joe" wrote otnmbrd wrote: I'd call her a Salvage Tug..... I stand corrected. http://www.sisl.ch/archives/2001/abeille/discover.htm Not so fast, Joe. Capt. Otn wasn't quite right. "les remorqueurs de haute mer chargés de sauver les bateaux en détresse." That's French for " The tugboats of high sea charged of to save the boats in distress" So, Capt. Otn should've called it a "high seas salvage tug". Hee he. I know more than a professional Pilot. Taking French in school did me good. ;-) Cheers, Ellen |

Joe No thanks....I just want to experince it once... It can be lotsa fun. We use to play a game called space man on the Halter Marine crewboats, they had a 20 ft overhead in the galley. If you time your jumps perfectly it's like floating in space, up all the way to the overhead touch it like a feather and land back on deck like a pillow, if you time your jump wrong your slammed off the overhead and into the deck crushed like a beer can.
