Here is ellen's reply offering the "One Finger Photograph
------------------------------------
You could ask Ellen to do something specific in the picture like hold up
a number of fingers or something that would difficult or impossible to
fake if the pic was already taken.

How about just one finger. The middle
one.... :-))))))))))

Do you know the smiley with so many lips means laughter? It's a joke you silly old fart...
I was making a joke at your expense. Duh! Tomorrow night you'll probably have your picture
of me in my boat which is what you asked for. What you bragged stupidly I couldn't post.
That's before you started changing canoes in mid stream.... You knew you were gonna lose
so you tried to change the rules. Nyut uh! That dog don't hunt. Go ahead, Tom, call me a loser
again. Everybody's gonna know who's the *real* loser pretty soon.

Cheers,
Ellen

By the way, I am sure you have said this before, but what kind of boat do you
have? I'm new like I said, and still trying to get a grasp on this stuff.

It's a Renken Tangerine 18. It's a nice little day sailer with only two feet of draft.
http://www.geocities.com/renkensailboats/ That's the website for people with them.
Mine's got the blue and white sails just like the top picture there. But my hull's red white and blue.
No motor. A *sail* boat. I bet I'm the ONLY one here with a sail boat that doesn't have a motor.
There's a picture of mine already on my album in badongo.com. http://ellenmacarthur.badongo.com/album/01
Some ignorant people here say it's Photoshopped.

Cheers,
Ellen

It looks like a lot of fun. I'm in the early stages of building my first
boat. i have the plans a been doing a lot of research but I want to wait
until it isn't going to rain on me while I'm working. Just a couple of
months to wait. It's a Hawaiian outrigger sailing/paddling canoe. The plans
are for 18' but I have the instructions to make it longer. I may go up to 27
because it is so narrow. Its about 18" wide. It can really only handle two
people comfortably at 18' but can hold 3 or 4 at 27 because of the weight
distribution. It won't have a motor on it but could be paddled pretty easily.
I really want to finish it so I can take it out ont he water and start
sailing more than I am.

Ellen,
Could you please like hold up an index finger or something so that this will
all just go away. Thom wont be satisfied until there is some sort of
evidence or something and maybe we can all start talking about boats again.

Tom wouldn't be satisfied no matter what I did. He'd only be satisfied if I admitted
I was Capt. Neal. He's got this fixation. Tom's the one who posted and said I couldn't
post a picture of me in my boat. He didn't like the one of me standing in front of it.
It's way up on top of this thread, I think. Anyway, now he's changing the rules. He'll just
keep changing the rules to keep from admitting he's full of it.
People really don't talk about boats much in here. They don't know that much about
boats. Sailboats that is. Every one of them has big diesel motors. They'd rather talk
about water pumps, injectors, oil, propellers, filters and all that stuff that's motor boat
stuff. Most of them only sail once or twice a year. They're frauds....

Cheers,
Ellen

Do they call it a proa? Dick Newick designed one proa that raced across the Atlantic.
It was fast. It could only sail on one tack. To go the other way you had to swap bow and
stern. I read about in a book. I just googled it and it was called "Cheers". Here's
the site http://www.boat-links.com/proafaq.html

Cheers,

Yeah, the one you are talking about is called a shunting Proa as opposed to a
tacking proa. Mine will be a Tacking one that is more like the boats of
Hawaii. This is the designers page http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/garyd/
I'm doing the Ulua in wood strip composite. There are a few pics of some
wood ones on there but not many. You kind of have to search for them also.

Looks like a fascinating project. Is wood strip composite the same as cold molded?
I like the sail. It looks like a lateen rig from the middle east. I think Polynesians sailed
all the way to the Easter Islands and to South America in canoes like Ulua but bigger
versions. I read a book several years ago, can't think of the name, but it was about
waiting for the west wind. And these South Seas sailors would take off in front of typhoons
which was the only time a west wind came and they would sail out in front of it for thousands
of miles with pigs and chickens and nuts and other food on board till they found an
island they could colonize. Those were the days.... Some real sailors.

Cheers,
Ellen

a lot of sailing stuff, all the time.

Boy, you are one lucky girl. Girls like you can always get someone to pay
their way through life. I bet Capt. Neal is your boyfriend! He's lying
over there on the couch, playing Cyrano to your Christian.
