Crazy *******! Why would anyone in their right mind, spend all that time
shivering.

Probably to avoid the idiots in the warm climes. Tilman even had the
auxiliary engine removed from one of his boats because he thought it was
unnecessary. He did it around Cape Horn while sailing to Patagonia.

I can see the reason to do that in a light weight boat, not in a heavy
boat.
