No, but you could try this....
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

I downloaded the zip file and extracted them. But, I looked in the
folder where my hosts file
was supposed to be but there was just a tiny 1 kb file called hosts. There
was a sample hosts and
a couple more. I opened the hosts file with notepad and this is all that's
in it.

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

If I put the big one full of all the ad websites in its place it still
won't do any good unless it has
the domain for the ads I'm getting. I did the "find" thing for sysip but
it came up negative. So the
domain http://cv.sysip.net is fake. I tried to find it on ARIN and it
said it didn't exist and was
available for sale.
So, what if I just add this domain into my host file like this.

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 http://cv.sysip.net # pain in the butt pop up ads
from ISP

Will it stay there or does Windows write a new hosts file every time
it opens? And where's my hosts file?
XP can't change names to numbers with my hosts file because there's none
in there. I don't understand this.
The one I pasted up there must not be it.

Cheers,
Ellen

You did something wrong.
1. Extract the zip files to a new folder. There will be five files in the
new folder.
2. Double click mvps.bat This will install the new hosts file in
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
3. The file will be 514k
4. add any url's you want to block.
