A lake I sail on added a dam that raised the water level 3 feet. So the easy answer to where the shoals are is: "the shoals are where the islands used to be." While sailing thru an area of innumerable shoals with twisty channels between them (and current, of course), my wife once made a remark I considered hysterically funny at the time, but have since realized was very wise: "Good thing it's low tide, now we can see where the shallow spots are."
