Default Sail Update-Heart of Gold

This morning we got the main set up, long soft battens in and then got
the sail about 95% up while I swapped out the outhaul control lines,
then.....set out to see how the main would fare. It was not blowing
much...just under 7-10 knots at the most and raining off an on as we
sailed.
What a revelation. I know sails are important but WOW!!!! The boat
sailed fast and every puff of air seemed to translate into an instant
increase of speed...as though the kevlar sail was a solid object. The
boat went upwind better and the sail is gorgeous to look at. The main
also seems to weigh half of what the old sails did.

When I got home the Pentax-Mylar genoa was waiting for me. I couldn't
believe how little it weighed compared to the much heavier yet smaller
mylar 110. I was told this sail rated an 8-9 for condition, but it
seems to be in at least the same 9+ condition as the mainsail. Sadly
it's now blowing something fierce outside, so I'm not about to do a
sailchange until it's a bit nicer.

I will post pics when both sails are flying....probably tomorrow or
Sunday!

Very happy with these sails!!!!!

Nutsy,

Glad you're happy with your sails. I hope it isn't the same song you
sang about your old sail when you purchased the boat.

Also hope you'll be happy with their length of service. Again, I'm not
sure I would have gone with plastic rather than Dacron for "Knocking
About" but also understand that's a personal matter.

Happy Sailing Nutsy. I'm envious!

I have a nearly new set if high tech sails for 1200 bucks, plus the guy
who runs the loft is sending me a lazy jack kit. Considering what I was
about to pay for a set of crosscut, I did pretty well. On top of that
some good business came out of it. Even if I decide I want a dacron
cruising tri-radial, it will only cost me about 1700 bucks. Places like
North and UK wanted 2500 for a crosscut! I'm probably getting a
asymetrical chute from them as well now.
It's been a win win win situation thus far.

putting high tech ( slick ) sails on the Boobs' daysailor is
like putting wheelie bars on a Honda 50.

it's like putting drag slicks on a Chevy Vega.

like a hood scoop on a V W Beetle

chrome wheels on a Ugo.

radar on a Mac 26 Xm.

Or putting some tired middle aged failure of a man on a Seidelmann 295.

Oh, wait. That fits.

Hey, Joe...you're talking to a guy who never owned a nice car in
Scotty. I also gave the Tribeca AWD to my father to use since we're
using the van full time now...so we don't even have an SUV in NY. You
can bet Scotty never gave his old man a 38K+ gift like that. I bet he
did give his old man quite a bit of shame though.

Let me know if you need some sails, Joe (not on here). I'll hook you
up. I just set up a 3rd boat (Tartan 33) with a tri-radial headsail and
new Furlex system. I'm looking at the Furlex myself.

The Boobster keep finding early examples in an attempt to put down the
Express 30. Hey, Boob I'm sure you came across this one but just
forgot to post a picture.
