Jim,
You ask a question and get a reply that isn't what you wanted to hear isn't being mad. Your reaction is very wrong. I has to agree with Katy; your reaction to the truth definitely needs improvement. I do believe that is all that she meant by getting "Calluses!" As in developing a "thickening of your skin" so to speak. If you're going to hang around this group and express dumb opinions, you are going to get rather sharp replies. Get use to it or take off! We won't change for you, Your obligation to change. That is if you want to be accepted. We don't run people off;---- we just ignore them. As I'm about to do with you. Ole Thom |

Like a rail mount Force 10, or Magma for the stern rail? I have a propane one and do about 90% of my cooking on it. Highly recommend getting one. I have a CNG, 2 burner stove and oven. Never used the oven. Mostly use the stove for coffee, occasional cooked breakfast or a bowl of soup at night. I carry a one burner Coleman propane stove just in case I run out of CNG on a trip. I store the bottles in the cabin. My slip neighbor mounted a PVC pipe with glued bottom cap and loose top cap on his stern rail and it holds two bottles. Scotty |

Scout-
I was going to suggest the same thing. We used our old BBQ a lot, and this year I got the Magma II. Its a major improvement, with the hinged lid and lighter. Also, it never once blew out. In fact, it was flawless. The old one was plumbed to the main propane, but I didn't bother with this so far - it too easy to just use the small bottles. The stove below does get used; since we sort of move on board for the summer, and always stay at anchor, so its hard to do a quick b'fast run. Coffee, eggs, & toast down below in the morning, but dinner is on the BBQ. BTW, I don't mind having the propane on board - our tank locker is in the stern, well ventilated, and the solenoid is always turned off immediately. However, if we had simpler needs, I might consider the Origo. Scotty wrote: Hey Scout, sure was nice out this week. Do you have, or plan to get a BBQ? Thanks Jeff and Scotty,
I actually have the Magma I bought for my Starwind, so I will use a rail grill. I like the idea of the pvc tank storage too. I'm thinking I wouldn't use an oven below (like Scotty) but would make mostly coffee and soup type meals. We typically don't eat too fancy even at home. As in developing a "thickening of your skin" so to speak. wo, wo, wo - I did express that I was wrong when I pointed it out - I only mentioned the Coleman stove because Brad & DSK mentioned other types of burners - but I admit that - but then here's katy's responses: "...not used to USENET yet huh?..." There's an insult that was totally unwarranted. "...You're going to "shoot" up and down the coast in a vessel that at best will go 7 knots?" What's with the "shoot" in quotations and why question my intention - I just met a guy in a forum who is a photographer and lives aboard - waiting to hear back from him about his bix - he's in Australia. "... And grow some callous..." And where did that come from? I read the posts previos to that - maybe I missed it but I didn't see where I communicated in a terse way to a response. So after those remarks, I responded in kind - how is that wrong - really. I don't give a **** what anyone thinks of me - life's too short - but am I supposed to be a pansy ass and allow someone to so quickly shoot an insult my way - that's a pansy. So don't confuse thin skin with someone who has balls enough to give it back. But Thom - I really don't care - you're responses were respectful so you seem okay to me - and if I was actually the one to say something inappropriate first - Then "I am sorry." But that's also usenet - there are so many nasty people in here or peeps who feel that an insulting remark is okay - when is an insult okay in a face-to-face social setting - NEVER? 'nuff said - if you are more prone to insults then to proper manners - then you are insecure and an ass. It's just here peeps are never face-to-face so insecure can get off on their bad side and not experience any repurcussions. To quote Cartman" "wha'eva" To quote Jimi: "I am the one who has to die when it's time for me to die, so let me live my life the way I want to - sing on brother, play on trumpet." But it sounds like it doesn't matter - you - and I assume everyone else - have made up your mind to ignore me - that's kind of extreme, but whatever. Jim |

How big is your battery bank? Inverters take a lot of
juice, don't they. I think you'll still want some kind of stove for the cabin, even if it's a one burner propane. Handy when it's cold and/or raining outside. You'll already have bottles along for the Magma. A lot of times when I sail late into the night ( AM) and I'm too tired to 'cook' I'll just warm up a can of soup before hitting the sack But I guess if you have enough battery , a micro will do those things easier and faster. Might be a good idea to coat the threads with grease or
something as long term outside storage may cause them to rust a little. I'm just guessing. Funny story, when my neighbor first made his, he didn't glue the bottom cap ( why, He didn't say) , and the first bottle he dropped in went right through into the water. :o SBV "Scout" wrote in message . .. You *are* a pansy, no wonder you can't cut it in the Corp. world. First - you're such a dickhead - and working for 13 years means I can't cut it, huh? You're a genius aren't you? And there's is only one way to climb the corporate ladder - you have to be a scumbag that ****s over your co-workers - thaat's not for me, but I'm willing to bet that's right up your alley. And since I work with people like you - I want to get out so that I don't get infected with the same low integrity and morality. But you wouldn't know anything about that - would you. All that you're concerned is getting off on being a dick -0 and I'm sure you're that way in person with people in your life. You need to relax 'cause you aew way too uptight. Man - what happened - who hurt you? Wife leave you or does it go back to your childhood. You're a nightmare with some serious issues - and that at least makes me smile - knowing that you're a mess - couldn't happen to a nicer guy. It;s rude to use crude language in a public forum...also to make ad hominem attacks...you have a rather duplistic set of values, Jim. You set yourself up as a target and then "bang", revert to attack. A nice person would either laugh off Scotty's attack, turn the other cheek, or try to discover just what it was that set the other off. Now, why don't we all just go back to discussing sailing. OK. This week a friend pointed out some things that helped my boat to sail better. I had the jib leads too far forward , and by heading up farther than I normally do, the boat leveled off better. Don't know if my VMG was better or not, but the ride was a lot smoother, with a lot less weather helm. Scotty Makes for a flatter sail...in more ways than one...I leave all the VMG discussion to the guys stewing in their mathematical hazes...it's not necessary for just sailing around...I like to tweak sails to get more out of them and to get a higher point, but making sailing into a physics or math problem just doesn't interest me...I'm sure that some would be aghast at this but hey, I sail because I like to sail...it's more a visceral thing for me than some problem to be solved. Got enough problems to solve in real life without looking for them while sailing. |

We go places, too, and use dead reckoning, our charts, GPS, etc. Using simple trig is good enough for me. We're never in that much of a hurry that we go to those lengths...if we are trying to make a destination and have a timeline, we use a simple rule...if our speed sailing goes below 4 knots, we turn on the Iron Jenny and either motor sail or run on engie=ne alone depending on direction and seas... I hear the gasps already...the reason is, though, taht when you have limited time, you make use of whatever you have to ,ake that time worthwhile. This summer we will be able to sail all summer without any hindrances. Mr Sails doesn't have to take any classes and doesn't think he's signing up to teach summer school...we'll get to explore a lot of territory and have the time to do it. |
