They are always 2 - 3 cents cheaper so they can suck in the dumb ****s to stupid to know any better. We should be paying $5/gallon. Why? So the working poor will not be able to get to work? So those without the means to buy gasoline to fuel their cheap, older, but consumptive vehicles will become completely insolvent, rather than just partially so? So your Yugo will be vindicated? So those who can afford to pay it will be forced to pay it. There should be exemptions for the poor and for those who drive for a living. JG @@ www.sailnow.com So when you gas up to you force the attendent to keep the excess you voluntarily pay ($5.00/gallon) or do you send a check to the oil company at the end of the year? If enough people wanted it, gas stations could raise the price to $5.00/ gallon and save the government the trouble of legislating it. I can easily afford to pay $5.00 a gallon. The question is how many gallons can I afford to buy? There will never be excess taxes on gasoline. The government wants to maximize gas tax revenue, not minimize gas consumption. The same with cigarettes. There is way too much tax revenue to actually want to outlaw smoking. There cure all is to tax leisure time. Americans have too much of it. If people spent more time working they wouldn't have lifestyles of excess consumption. Of course income would have to be reduced accordingly, preferably through taxation. |

Yes, that's exactly what I want. It would, for one thing, reduce crime. It
would be far cheaper to invest in education and give people a handout than put them in prison after they've victimized people. I know this upsets you. I'm sorry. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Dave" wrote in message ... That's pretty much of a piece with their other positions--more taxes so gumming bureaucrats can redistribute money from those who earned it to those who didn't. |
