Perhaps, but what controls gasoline prices at the pumps has less to do with
supply and demand than with speculation in the petroleum futures market.
When Katrina struck the south coastal states and wrecked some oil rigs, we
already had supplies that could sustain the current consumption levels for
well over three months. If prices had risen 15 cents or so--which would
have been appropriate--the supply reserves would have been sufficient for a
few months more. By then the importation levels from the Middle East (where
we only buy about 10% of our crude) and from South America (where we buy
substantially more) could have easily offset the supply losses due to
Katrina (less than 1% of our overall crude supply). BUT, the speculators
figured that Katrina gave them a golden opportunity to realize some serious
money on the futures market, and they were right. Of course this was all at
the expense of the US consumer. Big oil reaped monster profits while the
middle and lower classes suffered. And our 'gummint' did nothing to curb
the process; rather some powerful people no doubt realized some substantial
profits as well. I don't want to mention any names, but one such investor's

means nothing to you. Did you know the new Freedom towers will meet

The Freedom Tower, World Trade Center Transportation Hub, Memorial and
Memorial Museum will be powered by renewable energy?

If you have ever been to Ground Zero you would know the Freedom Tower,
the World Trade Center Transportation Hub and the Memorial, "Reflecting
Absence", are currently all under construction at the site.

Santiago Calatrava designed one of the most stunning building I've
ever seen for your new transportation center:

He could have done
many things to help the process along. He's the president of the united

The complexity of the rebuild is massive. To me it looks like the
people paying for it, and doing it, are doing a fine job.

Your an idiot, perhaps Bush should have chopped off the hands of the
designer who did not design fast enough, the builder that did not spend
his money fast enough. You putz, it's a private enterprize to re-build,
this is not a govt building the president has nothing to do with it.

I like the new designs, they are well thought out and designed by one

Only reason I voted for Bush was because Kerry was running against him.

You dems, liberals, and rob just keep bitching....do nothing to find
an alternative to hillery to support.... and them Republicans can
expect a victory in 2008 no matter who runs against her.

Like kerry... some people will stand outside the fence, throwing any
honor they have over that fence just to dis- the man making the
decisions. Thats OK when people vote they will do as they did before
and vote for the person they think will deal with the issues at hand in
the best way.

Jon keep screaming to vote for change....but hasent produced anyone
who has a good ideal how to change things or shown support for that
person, neither has Rob.

All you're doing is bitching and moaning.

I would not vote for Bush again either, he failed on many issues, but
he's still better than Kerry. He will be in office until 2008 when I
have faith John McCain will become our next president. Until then I

Investors invest to make profits....right? The Bush family was pushing
barges when the oil field was flat on it's face in the late 80's and
90's, what they should sell before they make a profit again?

How much of that profit will be re-invested in exploration (like the
biggest find in decades in the Gulf a few weeks ago) which is great for
Houston. I saw the oil filed go to **** in the early 90 and the rest of
the nation cared less about Houston. Did you know Chevron will put out
about 5 billion dollars to get that oil they just discovered to shore?

Record profits in oil are good for Texas. You should see all the ads

a war of choice rather than necessity. Reminds me of our reasons for going

Bushco claimed that there was a relationship between him and bin Laden's

Don't claim you know me Joe or how I would vote. I have said repeatedly that
a good contest would be between Hillary and McCain. Then, both sides would
actually get a choice, and one of the choices would not be an idiot.

That's a great explanation. Maybe you should recommend it to
the Republican National Committee for this fall's campaign.

Seriously, don't ask me--I'd never vote for GWB again for dogcatcher.

I wouldn't either. The difference is, I didn't vote for him
the first time around.

So, you're now planning to vote for Hillary in 2008?

BINGO!

Vote for the best....what will the dems and liberal offer? What did
they offer?

Until then I
will focus on better local leaders like Kinky our next Gov.

It's not that simple. The owners of the site are the government, the Port

the leaseholder. Add to that, NYPD concerns, insurers concerns, legal
concerns, etc. Five years doesn't seem like a long time.

You, Doug, and others all seem to believe that Hillarious will be the "blue"
candidate in '08. I'm far from convinced of that, and believe it to be less
likely every day. That last polls I've seen appear to support my belief.

That would be refreshing, considering that we've had to choose between two
idiots in both of the last presidential elections.

Fortunately the country is far more resilient than the gloom and doom crowd
seem to believe. But even resiliency can be tested if we continue to elect
political hacks like W, Kerry, Gore, W. J. Clinton, or Hillary. McCain
would be a definite improvement over the run-of-the-mill politicians we
generally get to choose from.

I don't think I would include Bill in that list. He did a lot for the
country. I don't have much info about Hillary, except that she seems to be
pretty pro-military and moderate. Of course, it's not likely you'll hear
that from the right. :-) We need to have a clear choice from both sides of
the isle. Hillary and McCain would be a good match up.

Depends.
If you listen to them, they offer a lot, like practical ways
o fix Social Security.

If you listen to hate-talk radio, the "radical leftist
elitists" (by which they apparently mean the entire
Democratic Party and the non-fascist wings of the Republican
Party) then there is nothing to hope for except maybe a
militaristic coup by the Bush Administration (only problem
there, the military doesn't like him, either).

Only reason I voted for Bush was because Kerry was running against him.

And the only reason you think Kerry was so bad is that you
are hypnotized by the constant stream of spiteful slander
against him.

Funny thing how "Swift-Boating" has become a political verb
in this country. How long do you think it's going to take
voters to catch on? Of course, some spotted it for the
sleazy tactic that it is immediately. Othere will probably
always fall for it.

The dems would be wise to run someone like Evan Bayh, former governor of
Indiana. He's perceived as a centrist, but his voting record tends to be
left of center. Clean cut, good looking, well-spoken, and his father was a
pillar of the democratic party of the 60s. Even Barak Obama of Illinois
would be a better choice than Gore, who is generally considered damaged
goods since his defeat in 2000.

A ruse. She's clever enough to realize that a hardline left winger can't
get elected, so she's been doing a commendable job of redefining herself as
a centrist. Her "pro-military" stance is one such maneuver.

Edwards is a trial lawyer. You can kiss tort reform goodbye if he ever
occupies the White House.

Obama is a fresh face and about as articulate as anyone in Washington these
days. He's also black, but with almost no overriding black mannerisms,
which would not appeal, of course, to the redneck side of the country, but
it wouldn't offend them quite as much. You may be right--he might need more
seasoning to become thoroughly corrupt like most Washington politicos.
