Should a ''beached bum'' like Thom be considered a
landlubber?

Thom recently sold his last boat due to personal reasons.

It broke his
heart to do so, but it was a proper decision nonetheless.

Being a
landlubber notwithstanding, Thom's experience with sailing

and sailboats
likely eclipses just about everyone else's here.

Nah....he's taken on so much salt water over the years that he'll never
lose the wrinkles on his skin....maybe we can just refer to him as the
group "driftwood"....

I apologize to old Thom for the bad things I said about him.
But, somebody's going to have to pass it on, or he won't read it.

Cheers,

This news group is called alt.sailing.asa. It has a charter. It's supposed to be
about sailing.

Are you sure about that? I haven't found the original charter, but
the oft-posted FAQ states that:

"alt.sailing.asa was begun by the American Sailing Association in 1990
as a forum for the exchange of ideas by people who share an interest
in the sport and lifestyle of sailing."

It does not say every post must be about sailing, only that those who
post should share that interest.

Those who abuse that charter are rude and taking rights from those who wish to
go and have every right to go by the rules of the charter. If you want to talk about
football go to a game or to your sports bar. If you want to talk about sailing come here
or go sailing. Don't come here and **** all over people who're here for sailing discussion.

Wrong, Ellen. Read the FAQ. One thing it is explicit about is that
no one, including you, has the right to moderate the group.

Just who do you think you are?

I know who I am. I'm not the moderator, and thus generally do not
complain about other posts.

Who are you?

If you've got nothing to say about sailing just read about it for a change. You might
learn something.

I wouldn't learn much from you - you've made over 50 posts and maybe 5
or 6 are even remotely related to sailing. Even those are just
complaining that others are wasting time discussing non-sailing things
like batteries and PFD's. And what kind of asshole tells someone who
just bought a boat that for a little more money he could get a better one?

You and others like you have run most of the sailors off.

Maybe you should look at my previous posts. Show me one that could be
interpreted that way. Also, tell me what percentage of my posts are
not boating related. You could also look in rec.boats.cruising, which
many here consider an adjacent room in the same building. (Kinda like
the dining room to our bar.)

If anyone has been "run off" recently it was by the flonkers, who were
invited here by another alleged woman who thought she knew what was
best for the group.

What sailor wants to hang with
a bunch of selfish babies?

You tell me - why are you here?

Maybe if you and others start acting like adults sailors might
come back. Otherwise it's hopeless. I hope you are proud of yourself for helping to make
alt.sailing.asa practically useless as a sailing forum.

Explain please, what have I done?

If you can't understand this simple fact then you're not worth talking to anymore.
Your part of the problem. Try to deny. Try to change the subject but the fact is
your part of the problem.

Sorry, Ellen, you really screwed this one. All the people you've
attacked have been the ones that actually mostly discuss boating. And
90% of your posts have been off topic. And you claim I'm the problem???

That's knot true! Last election I was all ready to vote for
