Any issues I should be aware of?
Whats best? I'd like a system that can also be tied in to a computor to display videos, charts, ect. I have dish satt service, do I need a TV? or just a screen? I also need a DVD player to work with it. The space I plan to install it measures 29X18X6 and is on the forward bulkhead in the forward V berth, will slamming a wave or other vibrations be an issue? Any suggestions? Joe |

Joe, there are many LCD systems out there these days. Quite a few will take inputs from a laptop as well. Vibration is not much of a factor, but LCDs will slow down a bit in the cold and lose some contrast in extreme heat. Samsung has a good deal of product out now as does Toshiba and Sony. I'm not familiar with your sat. system. If you have a box already, then it probably has a S-video or component out, which means you won't need a built in tuner. But if you ever plan to use a conventional TV antenna to pick up local stations in some far away port, a set with a tuner is the way to go. Take your time looking. Product turnover is very fast now so it's hard to keep up. Try to buy from a chain like Best Buy and get a LONG service extended warranty. If the set is underwater, they still must replace or repair. Good luck, RB |

I also have DISH, including one of their high definition receiver boxes.
I gives a beautiful picture on my (92-inch) screen when I can get HD programming, from either satellite or the local Houston stations. If I'm not mistaken, a satellite receiver can feed the signal directly to some, but not all TV's. If not, you can buy a receiver of your choice for a minimal price. I'm assuming that you have already set up the satellite antenna and dish, and intend to use it at the dock but not under sail. I've had experience aligning my two "dishes" with the satellites, and if I'm off by even a small amount the picture disentegrates. So, I'm guessing that the antenna has to be stationary, i.e., on the dock somewhere unless you want to pay big bucks for a tracking antenna system. You might want to look at Dell's website, or speak with their reps at the mall. They makes systems that work with both TV and computers. Jim Joe wrote: Any issues I should be aware of? Whats best?
