Just lookin'

I have not yet bought a sailboat but am giving it serious
consideration. Before I go I would like to head down to my local
marinas and have a look around. My question is if I go down there am I
going to get a "hey you get the hell away from there!" from just
walking around on the dock? Or is it ok to actually walk around and
admire as long as there is no touching involved.
thanks,
Scott

If you seem like a reasonable & friendly person, it should
be OK. Most (probably all) sailors like to talk about their
boats, so you might be able to start up a couple of
informative conversations & maybe get some closer looks...
might even get to go sailing... everybody needs crew at one
time or another.

The city dock where I used to keep my boat asked that you check in
with the dock master before you roamed the piers. They had a sign to
that effect. If you did, then it was permissible during daylight
hours.

Depends on the marina...if it's a public dock, there should be no
problem. Make sure you stay on the main docks, though, and not wander
down finger slips unless an owner is present that will give permission.
There is nothing more disconcerting to emerge from your companionway
to find someone hanging over your rail, looking in.

That wouldn't happen so often if you'd keep your clothes on.

;)

Are you looking for a date or a sailboat? hehee

Go and look and introduce yourself to anyone who is interested. Do not
touch, just admire. How old are you?
