The Benny maybe, but for the J-29 it greatly depends on who is sailing it, and the course you want to take. Anywhere below a close reach, a decent crew can get 8 ~ 12 knots pretty easily... heck if going downwind, I'd be using the spinnaker and going 15. It's called "fun." A well equipped and properly sailed J-29 should be shifting into 'survival mode' until somehwere over 40 knots... depending on the sea state, of course. It's not a great boat for dealing with big breaking waves. DSK |
