RedClouds hull speed is much faster than the 35s5. Simple Logic.
So then my boat must be faster than a J29, right? Joe, just slink away quietly. We all like your slow boat, really, we do. RB 35s5 NY |

But Only if it can leave the J29 behind, like RedCloud would leave your 35s5 way behind, in-fact over the horizon behind in no time at all. Then it would indeed be faster. It's OK Rob, your boat is nice for a real tender flat water day boat...really. Joe |

right! But Only if it can leave the J29 behind Wrong, Joe. A 35s5 is slower than a J29. And a J29 would clobber your boat even worse then my 35s5. It's starting to seem unlikely you are any kind of captain, or at least you know very little of the basics regarding sailboats. Redcloud could beat John Cairn's Catalina 28 in most conditions...I think! But that's about it. RB 35s5 NY |

Indeed, that why I said "your 35s5 would fall off behind the horizon in no time." Joe, our 35s5 has a higher SA/D than your boat, and a faster DISP to LWL ratio and less wetted surface for her length as well. Feel free to post the specs of your boat. My boats faster than your boat Rob, thats all you need to know. Joe. Yeah, it's rusting faster! I doubt it. I'm a world class expert on rust prevention. I have a Phd in rustoligy. I'm quite sure Rob zincs are boiling, his swedges are swelling and the rod rigging is cracking, the lifelines are streached out, the wiring is corroded, and his keel bolts are settleing in and starting to crush and grind and weaken the glass. Not to mention the blisters, core rotting, spider cracking of the gel coat, crazing of the big gull wing windows, and slack in his R&P steering. Joe CWM |

Nutsy,
Cripes!! Don't you realize what Joe is saying. His boat is faster than your's. He has that big engine which makes his boat faster than your's. When he is motorsailing he is FASTER THAN YOUR BOAT. Even is you would motor sail at full throttle you wouldn't be as fast as his "Tin Can" He is faster! You seem to be the only person that doesn't understand it. He isn't Lying; he is laughing! Wise Up! Sorry Joe, but I'm tired of reading his stupid replies. He is without a Clue. You've had him on the "HOOK" long enough. Reel him in, unhook him and throw him back. He's not a keeper. http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |

I would cruise at 9 kts steady without engine and both the J & 35s5 would be in survival mode. You would be douched more than a lipton tea bag on a plantation porch. You be about as fast and graceful as a grey hound on ice. It's starting to seem unlikely you are any kind of captain, or at least you know very little of the basics regarding sailboats. USMM masters # 607529....look it up, thats with over 11 yrs underway bubbles. 7 as Captain & Master. then add 10 yrs living on my own vessel RedCloud. Redcloud could beat John Cairn's Catalina 28 in most conditions...I think! But that's about it. Your boat is slower than RedCloud Rob. No if's, ands, or but's about it. De Vries builds the sleekest fastest steel hulls on earth. Very high quaility. Oh and BTW my Helm is much nicer than yours, it's hand made by one of the finest craftsman on earth. Even has a lucky charm inside her. And I bet the coin's under both my mast's are worth more than the coins under your SINGLE mast.(if you have one)....... that is smaller than my mizzen BTW. The Benny maybe, but for the J-29 it greatly depends on who is sailing it, and the course you want to take. Anywhere below a close reach, a decent crew can get 8 ~ 12 knots pretty easily... heck if going downwind, I'd be using the spinnaker and going 15. It's called "fun." A well equipped and properly sailed J-29 should be shifting into 'survival mode' until somehwere over 40 knots... depending on the sea state, of course. It's not a great boat for dealing with big breaking waves. DSK |

Most regatta entry fees are under $100. Making it real easy here, come back with a flag, any flag, we'll even settle for evidence that you CREWED on a boat that took ANY flag. John |
