1987 First 235 Great Deal
Hmm, if it were a First 210 or F 211; or the Farr 25, I'd be
all over it. Even a First 24 (swing keel) would be a fun boat. The F 235 sails pretty well for as roomy as it is, and is astoningly roomy for a 23 footer... but it ain't never gonna be mistaken for a sport boat. Bob Crantz wrote: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6694-...spagenameZWDVW Thanks, but pass. DSK |

Thanks, but pass. Yeah, a Hunter 19 is more fun to sail.....I think it rates 275 or something. A 235 is rated below 200 in some areas, fast and fun. Doug bought a Hunter 19 and then went right for his dream, a C&C 121....then got a trawler instead. RB 35s5 NY |

It's more fun to sail a Hunter 19 than to brag about imaginary sailing on the internet. Yeah....here's some more "imaginary sailing" Doug! http://hometown.aol.com/bobsprit/images/suzy2weby.jpg http://hometown.aol.com/bobsprit/images/fly.jpg I really like the 121. Suzanne loves the C&C 99. I had to talk her out of it until Thomas is older. By then she'll want a C&C 121 and I may just have to give in. What did your wife want again??? Oh, yeah....a trawler! What did your wife want again??? Oh, yeah....a trawler! Seems like you have been dominated by women all your life and cannot grasp any other pattern. If I had really wanted a C&C 121 I would have bought one. My wife wants to sail & to cruise with me; and I want to cruise & sail with her. It's that simple. You cannot understand that, which is why you're a usenet stalker and blowhard instead of pursuing your dreams. Maybe you will get a better understanding when your wife not only has a successful career & happy home life, but has won at least 3 international medical society awards, won at least 3 one-design championships, can skippered a boat on her own for a two week cruise or a 600 mile delivery, and yet still looks up to your knowledge & skill. Will that ever happen for you, Bubbles? DSK |

You already said you "Hoped your wife would like the 121 at the show." She didn't and now you're in a TRAWLER. My wife wanted a C&C 99. Seems like you're the one who's being controlled. I don't need to bring my wife to a boat show and hope she likes what I like! YOU HAVE A TRAWLER RB 35s5 NY |

Doug you are so cruel!
Shame! Shame! Everyone knows Sudsy's butt got too lumpy to model underwear anymore so she got a job stuffing envelopes at Publisher's Clearinghouse. Her co-dependent personality disorder is fullfilled by selflessly being a nurse and taking care of the drooling ne'er-do-well of a husband she has. Some day she may read ASA and see what the loser she has latched on to does to others, herself and their poor helpless child. If she didn't speak with a strong lisp, she may have done much better in life. The perpetual and fiery flames of hell await the large blubberous one. How much time does she have? won at least 3 one-design championships So now she prefers powerboats? yet still looks up to your knowledge & skill. Will that ever happen for you, Bubbles? Good lord! I don't "need" my wife to "look up to me." I prefer that we're equals and I sure wouldn't expose my ego the way you just did. Zikes! RB 35s5 NY |

Another plain & simple situation you cannot understand. ... now you're in a TRAWLER. Actually, I wish I was. Right now I'm at work, waiting for some other contractors to get their act together. .... My wife wanted a C&C 99. So why didn't you buy one? Too expensive for your X-box budget? ..... Seems like you're the one who's being controlled. I don't need to bring my wife to a boat show and hope she likes what I like! I don't either. It so happens that we both like boat shows, so we occasionally go to them. Neither of us particularly likes to "screen" movies though. YOU HAVE A TRAWLER Not only that, I go cruising in it. Try sailing some time, Bubbles... racing or cruising, either one. DSK |

That's why they're for sale that way, instead of being rehabbed on a back lot somewhere. A lot of these boats have been in the hands of starry-eyed low-budget dreamers already. I've exchanged emails with quite a few and maybe one in a 100 has the skills (or the bloody stick-to-it-ness to learn the skills) to actually put such a boat into sailing shape; none will ever do the homework to figure out in advance what it will cost. But taking these boats ouot of circulation will reduce the supply and keep up the demand so that the rest of us will be able to sell our boats one day for more than a pittance. Thus is The Balance maintained. DSK |

The report says the hull is cracked & decks buckled... IMHO this is a wreck. It has a lot of nice gear & fittings, maybe Seahag is looking for a 'parts' boat. Lots of folks would like to have those bronze ports. I'd be more tempted by something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/45-Cu...QQcmdZViewItem which is at least an uncracked & unbuckled structure. Still too much money, considering. DSK |

You call this a fixer upper? Vessel was damaged and submerged during hurricane. The decks buckled. Both hull sides cracked and crushed from deck to water line. Fractures to hull are complete. Teak decking is loose and in poor condition. Windows are in fair condition with some broken. Gauges and controls were all submerged and are in poor condition. Interior of vessel is in complete disarray with mud and debris throughout. All upholstery is wet and muddy and headliner is stained. Vessel has a 1993 32hp Picies diesel 3 cylinder inboard. Engine was submerged and is seized. Yeah, but it would make a great stepping stone DSK |

That's not an unusual shape for a boat of that era designed to the IOR rule... they had flat spots in unusual places, and a hull section shaped like a sherbet glass. Something about the way the rule measured the "sailing length" which was a mathematical way of trying to calculate the waterline when heeled. Despite the weird hull, many boats of this type sail quite well. Other of course have earned the reputation of being broach coaches. At least it has an intact rig & a working engine! Even if the hull is trashed, all those self-tailing winches cost more than $10K new and could probably be resold fairly readily. Anyway, it's a fun game to speculate. I am shopping for something much smaller, simpler, and less demanding of project work. I still have tugboat parts in the garage! DSK |

Actually, that could be fixed up as good as new... the prep would include building a cradle of full-frame molds to put the hull back into it's intended shape... not a simple of cheap task in itself... but it's not worth the effort or moeny since the rest of the boat is trashed. A shame, at one time that was somebody's dream boat. DSK |
