Your boat has hit it's market plateau. It should not drop if you
maintain her. The 35s5 has not hit a plateau and was driven up because
she is modern enough to still give a buyer much of what newer designs
have. If Beneteau prices make another jump that can bring up her value

implied by "not" hitting "a plateau."

Which are generally depreciating, the newer Tartans and Sabres
perhaps
excepted. These are in a quality range substantially above your
Beneteau

notwithstanding. Beneteaus are built to a price, specifications
notwithstanding. Big difference. Huge difference. Beneteau cuts corners
to achieve a price point. Personally I think Catalina builds a more solid,
better-finished boat these days than Beneteau. The last 393 we looked at
had so many joinerwork flaws as to be ugly below.

a boat on a higher level. Her fit and finish is ABOVE a Sabre or Tartan
of the same age.

believe that Beneteau built your boat to a "higher standard" you are guilty
of believing your own BS and hype.

We looked at plenty. Beneteau was serious about the
effort and had her interiors made overseas. The 35s5's cost when new
and outfitted was to (sic) high though.


During the same period similarly-sized Ericsons, Tartans, Sabres, Island
Packets, and others all sold for more. Beneteau may have overpriced the
Starcke boats, but they were still not in the same league as the ones I've
mentioned. And I doubt if you'd be able to convince anyone but Suzy of your
contention.

Both surveyors noted that the 35s5
was built above the standard of Oceanus


That's akin to saying that a Ford Festiva is built above the standard of a
Yugo.

and current first boats. I
suggest you step aboard a new First 36.7, then check out a 35s5. The
35s5 is far beyond it in quality by a country mile.


Can't see it. Didn't then, don't now. But feel free to delude yourself.
After all you own one of those "high standard" boats.

I recall looking at them a while back and I don't recall any of them

price range. They cost around $90K to $100K new and are slightly above
half
that now.

A fully geared up 35s5 new was about 100-110K, too much in 1988-1999
against boats with better and longer established reputations. Average
price now is 63'900. Low is 54'500 and high is 72'700. Every 35s5 we
investigated last year sold, including the 2 that were beaten to an
inch of their lives and probably not worth buying...still sold in the
mid 50's!

Only the one our septuagenarian friends sold. It was an '84. Not terribly
fast, but a solid, well-built boat. It had some minor problems, but was
essentially sound.
