Guess which marina?

In other words, you don't do anything at all that a
half-diligent owner could do for himself.

Which any broker with a license and a membership in one of
the several professional brokers organizations will. One
can get friendly enough with a phone call. I've done this
myself several times.

... They're available to brokers who pay for the access, but not to
the average Joe.

The average person who has more than three or four
functioning brain cells can figure it out easily enough.
These things are not a big mystery, and it's part of being
an informed buyer... which makes a lot of sense for a
big-ticket item like a yacht.

.... I presume Bobsprit has access through the marina's
brokerage.

I presume Bobsprit is lying like a rug. For some reason he
seems to enjoy it.

Either one of you was playing dog in the manger, or neither of you was smart
enough to read between the other's lines.

Is it necessary to "read between the lines" when one person
is so childish & insulting?

So, you work for free? That's probably more than your time
is worth.

I work for free slip, storage, all work on my boat, most of what I need
for free or at cost and I also get 1/3 of everything I sell in gear
from the yard, stuff for myself (such as a new CQR I just put aboard).
Everyone's happy. And you know what, Doug? I would work for free around
boats! I'm gagga over boats!

That's not free, it's called barter.

It's not hard to understand at all, this is the first time

you've mentioned it.

No, you just think in terms of an owner. Yards to surveys every day.

And your expertise on these items.... what exactly? That you

write ad copy?

I was trained by the yards resident sailboat repair-person and surveyor
for 5 years. I attended enough surveys to even consider going into the
biz for a while, until Thomas was born-delayed the idea for a bit. I've
helped install everything from heads to gimballed radars in the last
three years.

Do you have any FCC licenses to install or repair boat radios or radars?

This spring I raised 4 masts on boats from 35 to 48 feet.
Am I the end-all sailboat expert? Hell no, but we do a pretty small
amount of sailing related brokerage and I know more than enough to
handle what comes in.
I know this all ****es you off, Doug. But the truth is that few people
sailing for so short a time can match what I know about boats.

What is your knowledge in? In certainly isn't technical. Is it memorization
of sales brochures?

People
who know me personally seem to agree.

BS artist? Con man?

But I only acquired the knowledge
because I love boats..the rest was just a nice surprise. I think I'll
have more upsetting news for you quite soon, Doug. Remember when I said
I had a book deal on a sailing book?

Write a book on engineering or physics. Be a man!

But don't you think you'd be better off trying to refloat your own
dreams of sailing again, rather than bemoan my good fortune? Seriously,
Doug.

Doug has won regional and national sailing championships. Those are skill
based awards that can't be bought at any price. Tell us aboat your award
winning boat cushions!

Anyone can call the marina and ask for me. No one does this because the
truth hurts. The last thing poor Doug wants to hear is that I'm on the
level. Doug would rather just call me a liar and keep his head in the
sand.

Hell no! In fact, I am noted for it by everyone for many years. You just
haven't caught on in the same manner as others. Even Ganz doesn't complain
about the puppetry.

You're filled 100% with slips for sale/rent, seems contradictory.

Huh? Even the slips I'm selling are full now.

What
kind of insurance company bases rates on which marina one uses?
Enough
of this, you're so full of it that one can't conduct any sort of
meaningful discourse with you.

Marty, were you born an asshole, or just someone who worked at it your
whole life? Insurance companies do indeed base their rates on incidents
at a various marinas. If a marina is robbed enough or suffers many
sinkings, rates go up. Marinas like ours must be ready for countersuits
based on claims when some pinhead ruins his own boat and makes a claim.
If he tied it up wrong and suffers damage, the insurance co. can still
come after us. And we carry insurance for that which varies according
to how few problems come along. But our systems of prevention make that
a lot tougher for people to screw up and are good protection for
everyone else who CAN tie up a boat. You seem to know nothing about
this and should just shut your big inflated yap.
Really, dude. You know nothing. It's amazing.

What would the insurance company say when they find out that one of the
Marine Surveyors is not licensed or certified?

That one of the marina's "employees" does towing for hire without a
Captain's license?

That the marina has people working off the books?

hmmmm?

My guess is that the marina is way too smart to allow such a person to work
for them. But let Bubbles dream on--delusion seems to be his only outlet
these days.

No comment? I guess ripping people off for a "non-insurance
survey" is part of how you got rich?

The owner doesn't pay for the survey. My survey is for the yard to
determine if the boat will be allowed into brokerage. I recently took a
Hunter 43 in, but it had to pass my survey 1st. Owner does not pay for
this. Why is this hard to understand?

Survey? That's not a survey at all. No doubt you check the Buc Book, take
a quick glance at the boat to make sure it isn't trashed, and then offer
your recommendation to the brokerage. Calling yourself a surveyor is like
you calling yourself a captain.

Three weeks ago a fellow came in with a Ericson that pinned my meter
when I ran the decks. I sounded it and even found the points where
water had got in. But the point is that I did not accept the boat into
our program. I'm not going to give away free storage on a boat we may
never sell.
My inspection covers everything from rigging, to sails and electronics.
Our shop checks the engine. On occasion I'll take the float boat or
even drive over to check a boat out that sounds promising. Sometimes I
get to sail it in with the owner. Over the past few years I've had the
pleasure of sailing quite a few boats...a nice little benefit.

So why wouldn't the marina hire a *real* surveyor for this purpose? Do you
work for chicken feed?

Personally, I consider you to be the Hunter S Thompson of ASA. Stream of
conciousness has never enjoyed a more accomplished practitioner. Screw
