Apart from the obvious differences between, say, an open 18' daysailer
with, say, and a carbonfiber-constructed Swan45, what are the commonly
experienced "pluses" and "minuses" of a RHODES 18 (not "19") ?

For a number of years I sailed a variant of the Rhodes 18 called the
"Cape Cod Tech." Five of these were built, using the Rhodes hull and
maybe the rig (it might have been super sized), a keel from a 110, and
an inboard rudder. Its a nice, stout daysailer, though the real one
is so different from what I know I can't really comment on it's
handling qualities. There are a few fleets around, Biddeford Pool, ME
is pretty active.

I must say though, when they were replaced at my club with stock
Rhodes 19's, I was very impressed with the feel of the larger, heavier
19. I would go for the larger boat if I were dealing with ocean chop.
Also, the Mariner, a cuddy version of the 19 is very nice - that
would be choice of all of these today. (Of course, what I really want
is a Marshall cat, but that's another story...)
