I'm going to taper the leading edge to a knife like
sharpness. Scotty wrote: I don't think you want to do that. Scotty Joe wrote: How come? This may be counterintuitive, but when the foil (centerboard, keel, or rudder) is working, there is a slight flow across the leading edge. Then remember that it has to cope with big disruptions in the flow, such as when the boat rolls or pitches or turns. The foils are waggling about under water and have anything but ideal flow. The best all-around leading edge shape for a small sailboat is an ellipse, it's relatively easy to achieve & keep and works under a very wide variety of speeds & conditions. There's a *LOT* of stuff written about this, try googling something about leading & trailing edges, NACA foil sections, L/D ratios, and the like. Here's a good section: http://www.nasg.com/afdb/show-airfoil-e.phtml?id=260 Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

Here in this picture you can see the kick up rudder before the aluminum frame parted. http://image30.webshots.com/30/5/67/...6DdkPsY_ph.jpg I will post a repaired picture soon. With the rounded leading edge and tapered trailing edge :0). I have the material, hopefully tonight I will have the time. Joe Oz1...of the 3 twins. Joe Great toy Joe.....you might even learn to sail :-) I hope so,I've had the boat 8 yrs now...but ...just received my brand new set of ("used once") bumble bee Hood sails. They are black and yellow horz. striped with an albatross symbol on them. Not sure what boat they were made for but they fit the librisa like a zoot suit. Totally cool sails...can't wait!!!!! Loose footed main, and matching RF 100% jib... and HUGE big ass spinnaker. Have a Harken roller furler for the boat. I'm going to go ahead and pull the boat out of the water and fix her nice up for the summer squalls. I got a feeling it's going to be a wild & wet summer. Did you notice the vintage 15 ft immitation birch bark canoe on the dock? It's chopped sprayed fiberglass. Sears & Robuck. Great for windless days. Might go island hopping in Galveston bay this weekend with RedCloud and bring the canoe along to surf the ship wakes next to RedFish Island. Surfers have ridden miles near the trinity bay cut on the ship wakes. Joe Oz1...of the 3 twins. I welcome you to crackerbox palace,We've been expecting you. |
