Default Clear Lake vs Long Island Sound!

Clear Lake: largest petro chemical industry in the US!

Clear Lake: largest sewer plant in the US!

Clear Lake: Limited water flow!

Clear Lake: Largest pollution zone in America!

Long Island Sound: largest collection of beautiful estates.

Long Island Sound: flushes twice daily!

Long Island Sound: no major industry

Long Island Sound: major wildlife habitat!

Which is better?

You decide!

Amen!

Is that a picture of an oil refinery explosion?

I saw Red Cloud a few days ago. I was in your neck of the woods. Did you see
me?

I've sailed both places and the LIS is definitely much better sailing
waters. It's got history, it is very clean for being so close to a big city
and the sailing capital of the world, Newport Rhode Island lies at its
eastern end. It is a beautiful place.

Clear Lake, or Galveston Bay is a large industrial based port. You can sail
there, there's good sailing but it doesn't have history and the ambience
clings to the hull. Texas has a longer season, but the Sound is of much
greater quality. It's like comparing caviar to salmon egg fishbait.

Texas = Cowboys

Long Island = Yachtsmen

My two cents,

Lloyd

Lloyd, on a more serious note, the LIS is indeed pretty clean, but the
bottom is not. Also, the inlets and beachwash are often pretty bad.
Tests made by the Museum of Natural History a few years ago found the
LIS to be very clean (it has no choice due to the race), but still
there is contamination in the muck below that will last forever.
It is indeed one of the best places to sail anywhere close to a city.
Out on the sound, in NY or CT, people oftern remark that they can't
believe how beautiful it is.

Which year?
BTW, I just read in Soundings on how your area is the worst raw sewage
area in the free world. Last month's issue, BTW. The LIS is far cleaner
according to the Museum of Natural History and the WCD.
Now that's good for a serious BWAHAHAHAHA!

Go to my webshots album and see what ocean should actually look like... deep
blue... not that brackish grey green slime you sail on in the LIS.

Think about it... Halifax has maybe 500,000 people.... plus 4 treatment
plants are being installed. Also it's a very small part of the sailing
grounds around here.... only the "club racers" really sail there. You know
the type.... they have overpriced docks, fancy boats that never get out of
site of land, do "day sails" for 3 hours, spend more time at the "club" than
on the water, do more bragging than sailing, have every high tech gadget and
little idea how to use them or any use for them, are the butt of jokes by
every real sailor around...... need I go on? :-)
