Bzzzt... I think you need to look it up...
Theory: a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world; an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena; "theories can incorporate facts and laws and tested hypotheses"; "true in fact and theory" hypothesis: a tentative theory about the natural world; a concept that is not yet verified but that if true would explain certain facts or phenomena; "a scientific hypothesis that survives experimental testing becomes a scientific theory"; "he proposed a fresh theory of alkalis that later was accepted in chemical practices" -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Maxprop" wrote in message ink.net... A theory is something that cannot be proven by observable facts or experimentation. So far scientists haven't been able to prove anything w/r/t global warming. Some claim that the surface of the Earth is indeed warming and attempt to attribute it to human activities (which is probably the case), but there are far too many variable to control to make that leap of judgment. So they refer to the concept of GW as a theory. Of course most people who choose to believe that we're on the verge of rendering the planet uninhabitable tend to overlook that word when reading scientific reports or preaching their chosen brand of dogma.
