Isn't urine just excess minerals? The liver removes toxins. "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... Interesting post Bob, I was told it was a bad ideal to drink your urine to prevent dehydration. That urine removes the toxins in your body. If you drink your **** your body will need more water to remove the toxins only compounding the problem. That is what was taught in Navy survival school. Now the British special forces claim you can redrink your urine up to 3 times before it becomes toxic and of no use. I think I would go for salt water before drinking from my own straw. How long can the average person go without water before they die? 3 days maybe 4 right? Joe |

![]() Urine is the byproduct or fluid secreted by the kidneys, transported by the ureters to the urinary bladder where it is stored until it is voided through the urethra. It is a transparent solution that is clear to amber in colour, and usually is light yellow. Urine is made up of a watery solution of metabolic wastes (such as urea), dissolved salts and organic materials. Fluid and materials being filtered by the kidneys, destined to become urine, comes from the blood or interstitial fluid. The composition of urine is adjusted in the process of reabsorption when essential molecules needed by the body, such as glucose, are reabsorbed back into the blood stream via carrier molecules. The remaining fluid contains high concentrations of urea and other excess or potentially toxic substances that will be released from the body via urination. Urine flows through these structures: the kidney, ureter, bladder, and finally the urethra. Urine is produced by a process of filtration, reabsorption, and tubular secretion. Urine contains large amounts of urea, an excellent source of nitrogen for plants. As such it is a useful accelerator for compost. Urea is 10,000 times less toxic than ammonia and is a byproduct of deamination (2 NH3 molecules) and cellular respiration's (1 CO2 molecule) products combining together. Other components include various inorganic salts such as sodium chloride (the discharge of sodium through urine is known as "natriuresis".) |

No its not just excess minerals it's toxins. And when you are
dehydrated the toxins become concentrated. It would be about the same as drinking sal****er. Joe |

Joe No....drinking sal****er would dehydrate you...and the more you drink the more you want so the more you drink causing your kidneys to fail...judicious drinking of urine would keep you alive...maybe not so healthy...but alove.... |

Drinking urine does the same thing.
You're introducing more toxins that ....require more moisture to remove...... infact dehydrating you faster just like sal****er. Joe |

Joe Well, then, let's make an experimnet...we'll use you as the sal****er drinker, bobspit as the urine drinker... both of you drink your respective substance for three days and we'll see who wins. |

No let's not. But it is sailing related knowledge that could save your
life or kill you. It would be nice to know the truth. I think many survive despite drinking urine, and sal****er, and many die from doing so. Next thing you know Bob will endorse drinking blood. Joe |
