I didn't realize "Must Love Dogs" was on the list...that was a cute
movie, not what I would call Oscar material, though. "Weaterman" is on
our list to see. I've seen so many versions of "Oliver Twist" that I
guess I could stand one more.

Dickens is an abysmal read, but his books seem to make good movies... the
opposite is more common, great books made into lousy movies.

We don't go see many movies... in fact I can't recall what we went to see
last. My wife & I don't have the need to "be entertained" since we seem to
be able to entertain ourselves. But I heard some talk about a new Pink
Panther movie which I'd probably like.

I don't think I'd like the new Pink Panther - sacriligious - Sellers was the
best!

There was that one excellent rendition of _Huckleberry Finn_....

Which one was that?

...and the
there was _Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court_ and all the weird
spin-offs (the Danny Kaye version)....

Hah! I saw that... long time ago... I thought it was pretty
good back then. Danny Kaye was pretty funny.

... I always thought the Jack London
books were tedious but I did like the movie versions...

Jack London is like James Fenimore Cooper, great for
adventure but not so great on content or accuracy. I loved
all those adventure books in my early teens, then discovered
actual history and realized that nothing remotely like it
ever happened (or could). Then Mark Twain's essay "The
Literary Offenses of James Fenimore Cooper" killed the whole
game for me.

Another don't-see movie is the 'Last of the Mohicans' from
the early 1990s, don't remember who starred in it. It should
have been titled 'Men with Long Hair & Torn Clothes Running
in the Woods' as that pretty much sums up the plot, the
dialog, and 90% of the action. Neither J.F. Cooper nor Mark
Twain would have recognized it IMHO.

A good one (even has some sailing in it) is the Spencer
Tracy version of 'Captains Courageous.'

The Maltise Falcon is a better flick than read, same with to Kill a
mocking Bird.

I also think Spencer Tracy as the Old man of the sea was as excellent
as the book, however "For whom the bell tolls" is a better read.

I agree with Catch 22 great book , movie sucked.

Oh and all the James Cravell books, King Rat, Shogun, Tiapan, were all
better books than movies/mini series.

The Dove was a better book too!

He was a riot. It's a shame he never made any sailing movies.

Is it sacriligious to remake an old classic, like when
HInckley started building boats out of fiberglass?

Walk the Line

How'd you like it?

Must Love Dogs

Lisa watched that a while back when I was away.

One of my favorites. Rented it 3 times.

For sure - nothing wrong with the new and improved - particularly as long as
the latter is true.

Outstanding - I've already dusted off my Johnny Cash collection. Didn't
realize Bob Dylan wrote so much of his work.

I thought 'chic flick' when I saw the cover - but I enjoyed it too - very
funny.

I've always likes Johnny Cash. It's on our list.

I was working, so Lisa watched it by herself, said it was
too chick flicky for me.
Maybe your feminine side is bigger than mine?

Mr Sails thought it was very funny and he has never been accused of
having a feminine side...
