Default Trip Report 2006: Spanish and US Virgins Pictures

Not this time, although we were fairly close to that area.

The Norman Caves have the best snorkling in that area,
and there are some well placed day mooring close to shore.

I like the Indians... you can do both in the same day easily.

Lots of current at the Indians. Makes for a good
workout. Nice spot.

Last time I dove there, I got carried along one of the walls for 100 feet or
so. It was a nice ride!

I guess... never really saw any of significance.

I wore a lifejacket as I wanted to explore some distance.
I wanted to explore to see if a boat could make it
through on the east side of the pillars. It was pretty
shallow for quite a distance. I would not chance it
except on a catamarran.

Did you see all the fish hanging out in the pressure wave
on the leading edge of the pillars?

Hmmm... I thought there were a couple of moorings between the pillars and
the small island. Many years ago, we parked a mono in there.. I believe it
was a 43. Depth wasn't an issue but turning area was, given the current.
Maybe I'm thinking of a different part of them.

I do remember lots of fish!

They're incredibly easy to miss. At the Indians I was watching people feed
the various brightly-colored fish (people would take baggies of cereal down
and open them underwater--the fish would swarm around them in a feeding
frenzy) when a particularly bright orange fish swam close by the faceplate
of my mask, forcing me to focus up close for a change. I then noticed
literally hundreds of tiny jellies all around me. They are generally about
half an inch or less in size and virtually transparent. They didn't bother
me, but my wife ended up with what looked like a mild rash.
