Wanna a Martec folding prop?
I have an old Martec 2 blade folding prop with 3/4" shaft hole if
anybody wants it. I'll give it away to get it outa my truck. If I remember right, it was used for a 30' sailboat with a Yanmar 2GM but cannot remember the details. |

Shouldn't you make sure it's the right size and
pitch? Or doesn't that matter? S. "Capt. Rob" wrote in message ups.com... : Sold....Email me at : : Unless it's gone already. My ex needs one for her Catalina 30. : : : RB : 35s5 : NY : |

Shouldn't you make sure it's the right size and
pitch? Or doesn't that matter? He doesn't know the specs, so I'll take a chance. I have so many friends with 27-30 foot sailboats, the prop would find a home no matter what. Why let it go to waste, Steve? I also have a friend with San Juan 30/30 who could use it, among others. RB 35s5 NY |

The pitch is adjustable.
What is the diameter? With a 3/4" diameter shaft, it can't be very big. Don't give it to the Swab. He will just sell it. Put it on eBay yourself. Be sure to list the diameter of the prop also. The bigger the wheel, the more it is worth. "NotPony" wrote Shouldn't you make sure it's the right size and pitch? Or doesn't that matter? S. "Capt. This thing has been rattling around in my truck for 2 years. Whenever
I take my 9 yr old daughter anywhere in the truck my wife freaks out at "All the heavy stuff that could go flying". "Its a truck for gods sake" doesnt satisfy her but if it goes into the utility room (aka "The Black Hole) it'll be gone forever. |
Wanna a Martec folding prop?
No, I won't sell it, Joe and I've given away far more sailboat stuff to
friends and folks at my yard than I've sold. Most of the marine stuff I sold on Ebay belonged to my yard and I made no money, just a barter of services. I'll be doing it again in a few weeks to continue to help clean out the yard's storage areas. RB 35s5 NY |

Bart,
He said it was a Martec folding prop. Yes, the pitch is adjustable - if you send it to the factory to have the blades ground or new blades put on it. S. Bart,
He said it was a Martec folding prop. Yes, the pitch is adjustable - if you send it to the factory to have the blades ground or new blades put on it. An easy course of action and cheap to do when you send them back to be reconditioned...needed after a time because of play in the hinge action. RB 35s5 NY |

Easy and cheap? By the time you send them back,
get new blades, have the hub and your new blades drilled for an oversized pin and have new stops welded on the hub you've spent almost as much as buying a new prop. The other problem is that you can only have the prop refurbished a few times as the rebore for an over sized pin almost every time and can only do three times. So, you spent almost as much as a new prop and get a prop with a much shorter life span. Now, if you knew the prop was the right size and pitch for the boat, it wouldn't be as much of an issue. S. Easy and cheap? By the time you send them back,
get new blades, I had a new prop reconditioned for a friend's J30 a few years back. Admittedly not a big prop, but the whole job was under 400 dollars and the prop came back good as new. A new prop was a lot more than 400 bucks, more than twice the price. At that time I was also able to bargain with the people at Martec a bit. They did a great job and that prop is still in very good shape. Well worth it. RB 35s5 |

Now, if you knew the prop was the right size and
pitch for the boat, it wouldn't be as much of an issue. There are a total of four very different boats that are candidates. I have a feeling one will work. Again, no point in wasting a prop and leaving it in a garage. I don't quite get your objection to someone who is generous handing out an old prop and someone else taking the prop and in turn trying to finding a home for it with some friends. There are a LOT of sailboats at my yard and I'm friendly with more than half the owners, some work HARD to keep their boats going. If my friends can't use it, one of them probably can. If you think I'll sell it on Ebay, just watch ebay for it. You won't see it. RB 35s5 NY |

And according to Martec's website...
"Average cost is approximately $175.00 US, however, propeller size & metal condition will affect this estimate; the freight cost to return your propeller is additional. In the case of my friend's J30 prop it was VERY beat up and worn. RB 35s5 NY |

I stand corrected. I'll give myself 1 lash.
I was thinking of MaxProp. Come to think of it, Martec is a good prop for Swabbie. He can put sponges on the end of it. He knows how to use it. I think you're putting us on Nutsy,
I've sent my Martec back for service several times. Never has it been over $200 bucks. You're right about them coming back as good as new. My Martec has been my main prop for about 15 years. My Std Prop has been riding around in my truck since '96. The Folding Prop with the Streamline Tips is the better prop. (Thanks to Mary's recommemdation at Martec) Both will be going with the Sale http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |

It was Steve who claimed it was expensive. In the case of the J30 prop, it needed a LOT of work. I posted the Martec info showing it's typically 175.00. Take this up with Steve, who claimed reconditioning was close to the cost of a new prop! A new prop for the J30 would still have been around 800 bucks, more than twice the cost of reconditioing. Sorry, Scotty...I was the one who posted 175 for average repair from Martec. And your girlfriend was the one who actually claimed that it was almost as expensive as a NEW PROP!
