Default Small Cruiser/family boat

A friend of mine is searching for a small seaworthy and fun 21-25 foot
boat for his wife and 1 year old son, but does not want to buy a
Catalina 25 or anything like that. Having owned a Cape Dory Typhoon
previously, he wants some with personality and speed. He tried and
liked the Beneteau First 235, but they are a bit high priced for him.
He's looking to spend under 7K. A J24 is just not kid friendly enough.
A San Juan 24 is also an interesting pick.
Any suggestions? It should be a boat he can actually find.

Why are you asking here? I thought you were the big know-it-all
when it comes to boats.

True...and the San Juan 24 and 1st 235 are fun picks, but no one but
you ever accused me of being a know-it-all.
Thanks for the compliment. All the same, I'd like to hear other
suggestions.

That's not true! I've accused you of that many times. :-)

You can include me with Scotty on that score.

Being an admitted LIAR doesn't qualify as a KNOW IT ALL! Nutsy is ASA's
resident LIAR ( And BORE) but he does have the redeeming grace of being
the ASA KICK-ME.

He has found his level and character and seems to be comfortable with
it.

By the way, Nutsy, that SJ 24 is a damn nice Knock-about family boat. If
that is what your (Friend ??) really wants.
