So Katy
It's nice to have a boat thats more than a weekend toy costing money
isn't it? No more School Tax, no more property tax, a home that rocks you to sleep. Take 10 min to go sailing, great sunsets and sunrises on the water every day. Only us liveaboards enjoy the true value a fine sailing vessel provides. I think I'll stroll the decks now, perhaps feed the birds and have another cup of fresh Hills Brothers coffee up on the forecastle. Charlie the crab man should be making his rounds anytime now. Going to see if he has a soft shells for us. Joe RedCloud the perfect home |
So Katy
Don't forget no kids, no lathe, no mill, no MIG/TIG, no extensive library,
no appreciating asset (in some markets houses have doubled in value over the last 7 years), boats are more work than houses, a large yacht is smaller than an efficiency condo in square footage, etc. Dock fees are higher than school/property taxes. A boat is not a house. On lives aboard to travel, not to remain in one place. Amen! "Joe" wrote in message oups.com... It's nice to have a boat thats more than a weekend toy costing money isn't it? So you should endlessy wander?
You travel to visit and discover, to broaden your horizon, not to wander forever towards one. If you want to invest in a house to make money then thats fine, but the bubble is bursting in realestate Bob. Living on a sailboat is about freedom. Joe Joe |
So Katy
Freedom to do something
or Freedom from something? So far you have only described your paradise as the absense of things. The absense of hatred is not love, the absense of anger is not happiness. Absense is emptiness, emptiness is nothing. What is it about being a live aboard that fullfills? How does being a live aboard represent your highest values in life? "Joe" wrote in message oups.com... So Katy
Joe,
Is living on a Sailboat really about "Freedom" or "Free Loading?" http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |
So Katy
Freedom to do both and take my home with me.
You assume I miss long commutes, yard work, fast food, routines, solid ground. I'm fullfilled by perfect sunsets off the bow, the sound of the waves, the smell of the water, unblocked breezes, and having the ability to provide everything I need from my home. I'm at the perfect marina on a lake where lubbers pay 2 million dollars to have a view as nice as mine. My highest value or goal in life is to provide and protect my family and enjoy being with the people I like. Living aboard gives me more freedom to do that. I've had the land with barns full of stuff, and it's just that .....stuff. Some people get so much stuff they become slaves to the stuff. Jesus did not have a bunch of stuff did he Bob? Joe |
So Katy
Freedom.
A good Sailboat with the proper equipment needs nothing but the winds and a sharp crew to provide everything a sailor needs to survive. Is it free loading? Maybe, but thats why god gave us wind and the oceans. Joe |
So Katy
Jesus was not a live aboard either.
You'll be sailing on lava soon. It seems being a live aboard satisfies you by providing things from without rather than things from within. Capt Neal is the only man who understands what sailing truly is. Maybe Mooron. Those two won't be sailing in lava, but you will! That Ms Terry is the devil! Amen! "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... Oh..... the things from within. Well every bone in my body is happier
afloat then ashore. Is that what you mean Bob? 2 sad puppets in 1 Commodore Crantz? Joe |
So Katy
But what is it that makes you happy?
Is being afloat true happiness? What does it fullfill? What is it that you are trying to fullfill? Think on the abstract level. So far all you have managed to do is describe duty to family, escape or evasion and lesser degrees of suffering. What is YOUR purpose, your core sense of life and how is it fullfilled? Praise! You tell me yours, and I will tell you mine.
Joe |
So Katy
I purposely didn't give you any clues or hints. Think about it some more.
It's not important that you post it here, it's important to give it some thought. It's ok Joe, they'll let you sail on the cooler portions of the lava. Amen! "Joe" wrote in message oups.com... You tell me yours, and I will tell you mine. Joe |

Unless you are connected to this drivel by a satellite connection from some distant, secluded anchorage, siping martinis that some minion made, your freedom is a myth. Freedom is not having to suck the blackwater out of your tank, paint the bottom, change the oil and fill the tanks. Freedom is owning the dock, the boat, a house, condo in Aspen and a travel agency. Freedom is someone else getting up to check the lines at 0200. Living on a boat is the pain that some of us ordinary people are willing to put up with to have a small taste of freedom but freedom it ain't Too bad you missed out on those house deals! |

investment. Wireless is here, the price will drop and I will indeed be in a secluded cove or lagoon sipping martini's soon. Best thing is I will be making good money while I do it. Capt. Well, we still have the taxes since we haven't sold our house yet, but the
rest is true. Was going to go fishing this afternoon but a storm brewed up and we had a stint of 25-30 knot gusts blowing and then some rain. Went to see Harry Potter instead. We'll be going down "the Ditch" probablt in June...or maybe up...one way or
ta other, we'll be going somewhere....and our dock fees are no where near the amount we pay in property and school taxes at home....also, discovereing that you will not kill each other when forced into close cap(even after 27 years of living together) is a reassuring thing... tivity "Bob Crantz" wrote in message k.net... No Beer?
Well that somewhat true, however while in Deigo Garcia in 1980 during the Iran Hostage time, we had a cargo ship tie next to us. They had a busted cargo boom, so we had to offload her across the boat deck of the gompers. luckly the ship had all the booze for the island for 3 mo. Needless to say some of the cargo was lost and damaged while transferring it. So much so we filled a 40 ft utility boat to the gunnels. It was a 3 week drunk. Every crane and boat, the Bos'n locker, the paint locker, tool room all had bars. Even so you could go on to atoll and get a 5th of Jack for 3.50..No taxes. I'll always have good memories of Deigo Garcia. Mike who is a Merchant Marine and sailor just sent me some post cards showing how developed the island is now. It was nearly pristine in the early 80's. Joe |
