Default Doug's Sailboat

Joe. She's a nice home, sure
and steady. But performance is not what she's about.

That depends on how you define preformance.

In 30 kt winds and 20 ft seas RedCloud will out preform any boat here.

In speed? Not even close.
In sea-keeping? probably, although hard chine hulls tend to
be a bit more noisy & bouncy than others in the same
displacement category.

The Johnson 18 has been clocked at over 20 knots and outruns
the waves (ie faster than any boat can go by surfing), but
after a few hours you start looking for a more comfy place
to relax, maybe have a sandwich. Some of us have talked
about doing longer races but I really don't want to stay in
a wetsuit for 24+ hours even if it did get me in the record
books.
