Thanks for the link, Crantz! She's a screamer with proper trim!
I had a Beneteau 35S5. That model has a 7/8ths fractional rig. When I did not take the time to address sail shape and proper trim it sailed very poorly in every way. When properly trimed and tweaked it was a screamer. I loved sailing that boat. With a f. rig you need much less sail inventory, there is less area to concern yourself with in the foretriangle. Any furling gear, headsails, spinnakers and poles will be smaller and more managable. Because the mast is pushed forward the boom and main sail are much larger and are, proportunately providing more power. Thus, sail shape of the main is very very important. Spend your money on a good main, learn to shape it.and with the right mast (tuneable) and hardware (backstay adjuster!!)a f. rig will do well. I never flew a spinnaker by myself on the Catalina 400, I did it often on the Beneteau. JS http://www.boated.com/post.asp?metho...07&FORUM_ID=59 RB 35s5....a SCREAMER!!!! NY |
