Loco gets busted again...
It seems that a few folks have heard of semi-planing sailboats!
From the Volvo site: http://www.torresen.com/sailing/cont...ves/003521.php Volvo Introduces Five Sailboat Engines - August 08, 2005 With eight engines ranging from 12 to 180 hp, Volvo Penta now has the market's most modern and complete engine range for displacement boats and semi-planing boats. And PLEASE read The Nature of Boats, Loco. You might learn a thing or two about sailing and semi planing disp. hull design. You've exposed more times than Scotty Potty's wang at the All-Gay Expo! Ah, Bob - They're talking about powerboats there, not sailboats.
Almost every reference to "semi-planing" is for powerboats, not sailboats. Its becoming clear: what you like about your bendy is that it handles like a powerboat! This is not to say keel sailboats don't on occasion "semi-plane" but there are only a few (like the 60's) that can sustain that for any significant period. Capt. Ah, NO there not. Read it again. It's for the realease of 5 NEW SAILBOAT engines. And while you're right that semi-plane is more commonly used for powerboats, it's used on occasion for sailboats. I've heard it and it's online of course. Loco said it's NEVER used and he certainly NEVER heard it. The term exists. Period. RB 35s5....a boat for someone who actually knows boats! NY |

They never actually refer to semi-planing sailboats. The do say they can be used in sailboats. And they say the have a complete range of engines for different types of boats including semi-planing. But they don't mention semi-planing sailboats. And you could also look on the Volvo site - I doubt you'll find a single reference to semi-planing sailboats. This is just the latest in a long, long list of cases where you claim to be authoritative, but in fact you're just making things up! Sorry Boobie, I never made any comment about Donal or Loco at all. I,
in fact, pointed out right away the "semi-planed" was a powerboat term. All I did was claim the you misread the Volvo press release, which indeed you did. You sound more like a marketing brochure than an experienced cruiser.
You have one berth, that because its measured diagonally, is 7 feet on one side. And you can't roll over without whacking the overhead. Are you claiming that the V counts as a 7 footer? You brag about A/C without considering that it has terrible ventilation. A tiny galley, a small fridge behind the stove. No counter space at all, unless you cover the sink. The head isn't small, but it doesn't have a shower. My old 30 footer even had a separate shower. BTW, is there any ventilation in the head? But that's OK, Bob. Since you never actually cruise, you'll never miss these things. It pretty obvious every time you brag about the A/C that what you really wanted was a nice place at the dock to hang out and watch the real sailors. Capt. As a general rule, I have noted, over the years, that as the sailboat gets larger the use of it for sailing gets smaller. Many Americans need to reconsider their idea of "the bigger the better" and opt for a sailboat of a sensible size for their abilities. The same goes for their homes - Americans live in houses that are becoming obscene with respect to square footage of floor space. These displays of greed gobble up resources the likes of which the world has never seen before. Far better to live in a boat or a single-wide (or double-wide like you do, Scotty), than a huge house that discomforts the owner and hogs resources badly needed by the burgeoning population of more sensible folks.
