Default Navy is phasing out Paper Charts

And thats fine for the Navy. But not for a sailor on his own boat.

Agree

.... I
can find no reason I would want to toss my charts.

Me neither.
If nothing else, charts are fun to look at before and after a voyage.

But then again not only do I maintain a proper plot, I make notes on my
charts, drawings, symbols, dock names, locations of fuel and water,
marina notes, channel notes, fishing hot spots, good catches, regetta
routes, hang off bouys,

You mean "moorings"?

... liquor stores, shrimboat docks, landmarks,
field notes, bridge and lock channels, traffic notes, oyster reefs,
grocery stops, and a hundred other things you will not see or recall on
your gizmos.

Well, you can add all those notes to some types of electronic charts.
You can also use standard symbols which will rescale with the chart
view, and create & re-use your own symbols.

... I can access this information without power.... and it's
crash and virus free.

Yeah, well, there is that.
Electronic doo-dads have a terrible record for reliability IMHO. They
tend to work great until you really really need them. So, the best way
to avoid a crash is to never need them that badly.

No need for a fat ass lubbery loser like BB to get up and do a proper
plot when he can watch it on TV I guess.

Bubbles would enjoy a nice sailing video game.

It's further than he'll ever get from the dock! Love the noise the
sqids make when you run them down!

Cheers

Hang off bouys are close to oil rigs and have about 150 of 3" line.
Great for stopping, easy to get fouled on day and night.

Yeah and it can all be lost with ease, and takes 10 times longer at do.
