That, sadly appears to be the truth. That sort of attitude is precisely
the sort of thing that the extremists dedicated to the destruction of
democracy and imposition of their own narrow religious viewpoint seize
and use as an argument to the ignorant to convince them that the USA is
an evil imperialistic tyrant. Perhaps they are correct.

From their point of view they are correct. From a Jewish point of view Rome
was an evil tyrant because Rome would not allow them to stone heretics like
Jesus to death. From my viewpoint, religious fanatics of all stripes are
like pedophiles in that they cannot be cured of their disease and must,
therefore, be imprisoned or killed to protect rational society. The USA has
indeed drifted far from our constitutional origins, our government ever more
tyranical - all due to religious fanaticism. Religious freaks decided the
government should save us from drink - then abolished freedom after freedom
to protect the tyrants trying to enforce that idiocy. Today we find a War on
Drugs doing the same. Oh well ....
