My second trip to Spain was interesting also.

During a side trip to Majorca I spotted the schooner I cruised
to Hawaii in back in 1997. It was docked at the harbor in Palma.
That was a surprise and a treat to see. I got a picture but the
yacht was partially blocked by passing traffic and the seawall.


Too bad you couldn't go over and check it out. That boat really gets
around... Hawaii to the Med!

I visited Palma briefly, but it was a long time ago. One of those places
I've been meaning to get back to.


My one day sailing was boring. Light winds on a Bavaria 36.
These are boat that use thimbles and crimp swages for their
lifelines. No pelican hooks or quality swqage fittings. Overall,
the quality was slightly lower than I would have expected of a
boat of this class.


Interesting. The Bavarias of a few years ago were pretty good. Maybe
this was a cheapo fix-it by the charter co? Or maybe they're suffering
from competition for slim profits in the boatbuilding industry?


I did see an interesting one design fleet. The boats were about
28 feet long with open transoms and swing keels. Most were
dry sailed. I saw only five in slips. The total fleet size was
about 25 boats. I did not take any pictures. Does anyone have
an idea of what they could be?

There's also a Laser sportboat about that size, or it could be a locally
produced boat. The Spanish have some very capable designers & builders.


During the tour of the Maritime Center, I took dozens of photos.
That was perhaps the most interesting part of the trip. I'll post those
next week.


Cool... what sort of exhibits did they have, like a museum?
