I wish I could just settle for a Beneteau or Catalina
as that would be easy to find and buy.

I once said the same thing about 800' carriers. Just couldn't settle for
anything under 1000'.

Second half?? Have you seen pics of bob? He's lucky if he makes it
to 50. Thomas will get his inheritance while he's still young enough
to enjoy it.

Check the Drudge report. They have a link to an article that indicates Bob might
live a long time. Seems overweight is not the problem it's hyped up to be.

Time for a nice milkshake . . .

rusty could sail with 8 inch draft and still find a rock to hit.

Any new boat needs to be less than 5 foot draft to be most useful

I don't think so. Mine draws 5 1/2 ft., and I haven't felt

particularly
limited (aside from the fact that my home port badly needs

dredging). Now if
you were talking the south shore it would be another matter.

Nope. Tartan 37 and C&C 37 are among the better used production boats
around period. We could easily spend less with a Hunter or Beneteau,
but that would suck. Price has nothing to do with it. The only other
boats I'd be interested in would new, which is not smart money. I don't
see what my financial capability has to do with anything, but I see
that it somehow matters to you. Perhaps you can show the group better
boat choices?

Really? So, it wasn't you that spent months & months bragging about how
little you paid for your last boat?

Why? It's not like you're planning to actually go sailing.

This makes no sense. If "price has nothing to do with it" then why not
buy new? You wouldn't have all the lack-of-maintenance issues your last
boat had. And if money is really no object, buy an Oyster. The quality
difference is huge.

A Snark that actually gets sailed would a better choice than any boat
that only gets used as a bragging implement on the internet.

Sure, help yourself. It needs a little work, I'm not comfortable saying
words like "implement" whereas Taddy can make almost any words fit
perfectly.

Depends on the age of the boat, doesn't it? A new Beneteau could cost an
awful lot more than a used Tartan.

but that would suck.

Why? A Beneteau First series will outperform a Tartan any day. If you are
genuinely interested in sailing, then the Tartan should come a poor second
to a First. A Tartan cannot provide the sailing thrills that a First can.
A Tartan won't do 9 kts, whereas a First will do more than 15 kts.

Why not? I'm beginning to have to do winter maintenance on my boat. I
really don't like it at all!! One of my batteries has failed, and finding a
replacement is proving to be a bit of a hassle.

Look at Malo boats. They are really nice! If they could go faster, I
would get one tomorrow. Unfortunately, I don't think that you could find a
cheap secondhand Malo, so it is probably out of your reach. When I am a bit
older, and performance becomes less important than comfort, then I will buy
a Malo.
