Here's the official ceremony... sorry for your loss.
http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq85-1.htm -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Glen" wrote in message ... I need some help. A very good friend of mine just died. He and his wife loved to sail with us. She called and told me she would like to have Steve's ashes thrown overboard into the sound. Since the boat is not very big (25') we plan on having the bulk of the memorial party on shore at our house. What is the "proper" way to set the boat up..ie flags, bunting, etc. He died in Mexico so it will be a few days before his ashes return here. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Glen |

Depends on where you are whether it's legal or not...it's illegal in the
Great Lakes but people do it anyway...my Ucle Jimmy was sprinkled halfway between the shore and Catalina...off a charter boat... I don't know if my Grandma and Aunt told the captain that's what they were renting the boat for... "Glen" wrote in message ... I need some help. A very good friend of mine just died. Be careful of the winds, dump the urn as close to the water as possible on
the leeward side. I don't want to go into detail in what went wrong spreading the ashes of my brother in law, but think of riding in an open car on a coal fired train. It is illegal to dump ashes overboard. Read annex 5 of the MARPOL treaty.

Hey first I would like to thank "J" for his kind thoughts. I looked @
http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq85-1.htm and I gleaned a couple of ideas, but I'm thinking of something less formal. He/we are very free spirts and don't do conformity very well. I would like to run up the skull and crossbones, but I havn't run it by his wife yet. I know he would appreciate it. as for legal.. Basically we are in rural SC on the ocean, I can sail all day without seeing another boat. Due to the remoteness where it happened (@13,000 'in Mexico} the red tape etc.. We do not expect this to happen until mid next week. So any other ideas will be well appreciated.. Good Sailng Glen On Mon, 28 Mar 2005 23:28:43 -0500, Glen wrote: I need some help. You should seriously consider hiring a bag pipe player for the
ceremony. And don't blab to too many people what you're doing, there's a lot of snitches around. -- Scott Vernon Plowville Pa _/)__/)_/)_ "Glen" wrote in message ... I knew a person who had her father packed into shot gun shells. They took
them out to the middle of his property in the U.P. and shot him in all directions. "Joe" wrote in message ups.com...
