We had one go sailing with us last year...we were about 6-7 miles off and he
must have been tired...landed on the spreaders and stayed there until we sailed in and then flew away when we got to the channel.... as long as he stayed up there and didn't bother us, he was a welcome passenger...if he ahd started buzzing around, I would have whopped him a good one with the boat hook...
