My grandmother and aunt did volunteer work as Grey Ladies for the Red Cross
at the State Psych hospital in Ypsi when I was a kid...I can remember them coming home crying for their "ladies" They would go around to local merchants asking for donations of cosmetics and toiletries and whatever else they could get because those women had nothing..they made them take communal showers and would dump patricide on them to keep the lice down...horrible... It wasn't that they did it...it was the way they did it...my grandmother
referred to it as the "sheep dip" day...there was very little humanity to the process...
