Gilligan,
by the way, I took your advice and walked away from the house I was considering. When I did the formal inspection I brought along my gaussmeter. The readings in the house were 15-20 milli-gauss and in the yard the readings exceeded 100 milli-gauss. I know the jury is still out on this issue, but I'd rather err on the side of caution. I don't think the fields affect most people. One thing I learned is to get a
house that is easy to resell. My old house was the greatest place on earth until a few personal things changed and I had to move. Because of its unique nature it took over one year to sell. Power lines could make a house a tough sell and in a down market an impossible sell unless severely discounted. I hope you find a very nice, affordable place to enjoy. One thing, your reading in the yard were larger than those in the house. Yet
the literature (and others) always say the fields should be higher in the house. Did you test with any appliances on? It is a good thing you measured the fields and don't always believe people when the say the fields in the house are higher. The 20 mgauss field in the house could have came from the powerlines, not the wiring of the house. Gilligan "Scout" wrote in message ... The house is about 100 feet from the wires. The readings in the yard were
taken between the house and the wires, and got progressively weaker as I moved away from the wires. The house was (essentially) empty and no or very little current was flowing in the house's circuits. I'm thinking the readings inside the house were caused by the outdoor power lines. When I walked under the wires my meter pegged (OL). I agree that there may be little or no danger to me physically, but as you've suggested, it could be problematic if I wanted to sell the house later. I liked the place but figured it's just not worth it. Of course, it also failed the radon and septic tests, and had coliform in the well water. Scout "Gilligan" wrote in message ink.net... The good Capt is really a nice person. Just look at what is going on.
