Doug,

You are confusing logic with emotion. There are plenty of examples of
highly
educated and intelligent people who believe in god, or playing the
lottery, or
all sorts of other superstitious nonsense. Albert Einstein believed
fervently in
god, despite his highly developed intellectual abilities. There are people
in
this newsgroup who believe everything in the bible literally happened. The
US is
a very technically advanced country, yet look at who is in the White
House,
spouting creationism. The Japanese culture is incredibly different from
ours. I
do not find it at all incongruous for them to be technically advanced, and
at
the same time very backwards or even foolishly dogmatic in another area.
They
believe in living manifestations of god. You don't.

Well said.

In other words, you and BittyBill-Bob want to think those clever little
Nips are still quite doofusses, so you can keep your sense of racial
superiority intact.

The universe is what it is, not what you wish it to be.

That admonition would best be acknowledged by you, rather than by Bill or
me. You seem to be the one in denial of cultural fact.

Am I the one claiming it's a "cultural fact" that all Japanese sincerely
believed their Emperor was a god?

No, nor am I. But you've flatly denied that some, perhaps most, of the
Japanese during WWII regarded their emperor as a one might a deity. This is
demonstrative of a closed mind and the inability to accept that not everyone
believes what you believe. This is the pinnacle of arrogance.

I'd be inclined to advise you to give up a losing argument, but your sort of
bull-headed arrogance leaves no room for self-doubt. So be it.

Observe closely, class. Here's a major backpedal.

The original statement which I disagreed with: "The Japanese worshipped
their Emperor as a god."

No "some, perhaps most"... no "regarded as one might a deity"...

I'd be inclined to advise you that the truth doesn't care about who wins
or loses arguments.

Did you go back and re-read the prior thread and realize that 1- your
statements sound absurd and 2- you're agreeing with BittyBill/Bubbles
and decide to go into backpedal mode?
