A nail gun backfired on Mr Lawler, 23, on January 6 while he was working in a ski resort town in the Colorado mountains. The gun sent a nail into a piece of wood nearby, but Mr Lawler did not realise a second nail had passed through his mouth, embedded in his skull and penetrated his brain.0 Oz1...of the 3 twins. When I was working construction I once shot myself with a nail. It was a
3.25" nail, and went in almost 3", in my left hand. It hit my index finger in the first joint, and then was redirected so that it went into my hand until the end of the nail could be seen under the skin in the center of the back of my hand. I gotta tell ya, it was not that painful. It felt like I had been bruised with something, ok, a serious bruise. But that was about it. When the docs xrayed my hand it hurt to hold it in certain positions, as it did not want to move freely as you might imagine. Also when they removed the nail it was the worst pain I had ever experienced, almost fainted from it. But being shot or having the nail in me was not painful really. And yes, I voted for Bush, too. Most of those didn't really vote for Kerry. Even Democrats aren't
stupid enough to vote for a French scarecrow like Kerry who has the second most liberal voting record in the Senate - that's when he bothered showing up to vote. A large percentage of the Kerry votes were of the ABB variety - anybody but Bush. Democrats are losers and will continue to be losers until and unless they adjuct their attitude and start standing FOR something instead of being against everything. I worked as a professional ski patrolman there in '73 through '75, but there was no development of Peak 7 at that time--only Peaks 8 and 9. My favorite run at Breckenridge was Inferno (in the valley off Peak 9 toward Peak 8), which I helped cut in the summer of '74. My fondest memories, however, were of XC skiing around the Continental Divide, which was the next range toward the east. The town has exploded since I left, and so has the ski area, including both Peaks 7 and 10 of the Ten Mile Range. Wonderful memories. Max |

Max Yep, I know Inferno by name, I'd need to look at a trail map to fix it. The place has really gone crazy, I was there as far back as late 70's then about every 4 years since then and it's changed a massive amount. Just last night I booked accomodation in Tahoe for next year so I might even consider a quick trip over to Breckenridge when I scoot over to visit some friends in Vail. I've gone back every other year, thanks to continuing privileges at the ski area and friends with large homes/accommodations. What is disturbing is how the town has changed since I lived there. When we moved to Breckenridge in '73, it still had dirt streets and wooden sidewalks. One year later everything was paved. The Gold Pan bar still had a dirt floor, but the CO Dept. of Health shut them down a year later, until they put in at least a wooden floor. Since that time the town has just exploded, thanks to overeager developers and land values. Today it's like an urban area, not the quaint gold mining town it used to be. I'm sure you've noted the changes, too. Some change is good, and change is inevitable, but I think Breck experienced runaway development in the Eighties and Nineties, which has completely eliminated any of it's original personality. It's almost another Vail. Max |
If change is so bad, why do you keep going back? Go to Crested Butte if you
want small town. Go to Ski Cooper if you want a small area. Obviously, quaintness and small town are not at the top of your list, you continue to go there for some other reason. Small town or not, it's still far more urban than Breckenridge was in the 70s. Go to Ski Cooper if you want a small area. Who said anything about wanting a "small area?" Breckenridge, even when it was owned by the Aspen Ski Corp., was not a small ski area. To the contrary, it was one of the ten largest in the state. Skiing out of area is indeed fun, IF (very big *if*) you know what you're doing. Did you see that sign in the news this week--the one with the skull and crossbones, stating: "If you ski out of area, you can die."? Fact: The networks failed to declare OHIO for Bush for hours
when it was clear he won. Only a deluded Kerry hoped he won Ohio. Kerry was bolstered by the networks who couldn't conceive he would lose. Neither Bush nor Cheney thought they lost Ohio. Kerry lost because he is a phony, spinelss, liberal, willing to sell out our country for his own gain. He lost because he failed to reveal his and his wife's tax returns. He lost because he bailed out of Vietnam after only serving four months, while everyone else served the normal one year tour. Fact: Kerry did not win the popular vote. France is not part of the United States. Finally, I think it is disgraceful that the networks are so biased and try to influence elections with their biased reporting. Perhaps Bush was elected because the majority of America can see through that bull**** and pick a President that is not spineless or wishy washy. "DSK" wrote Fact: 49% of the country voted for Kerry, and until the Ohio vote was recounted, everybody including Bush & Cheney thought he'd won. |
