Default Open container regs on US waters?

Just was thinking how funny mooron's post was:

"I generally find that wildly swinging a half full bottle of rum and
screaming "She's Out of Control".. "Clear the Dock!"... works wonders to put
a run to the rubber neckers ashore!"

I don't recall any particular regs when it comes to open alcohol containers,
the issue is of course, being sober (under 0.08 here in Cal), and I'm sure
if a Coastie or copper saw this you'd get boarded, but I'm wondering if
there's any particular open container reg.

We don't don't allow any Coasties or cops in my yacht club. And
there's an unwritten rule at the club that you MUST walk around with
an open container.

Pinhead, we're talking about sailing, not walking.

this brings to mind a similar thread in 2001 where I mentioned a new
(Florida) reg I discovered when reading up on the changes to the
(Florida)dive flag regs

here is the post in the old thread,

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...400e84558558c0

the link in the post was dead but was archived

the relavant section (quoted in the post) is near the bottom.

Open top containers are common here on the East coast. As a rule, they
are loaded on the top of a container stack.
