Yes it is! Hackers have better things to do with their time than
waste it hacking into mine or Mooron's worthless computer.
What would they get - nothing worthwhile to be sure.

Moreover, your question is fallacious, being predicated on the notion that
only 'important' systems face being hacked. I'd invite you to define
'important' in this context, but I guarantee that you cannot. There are too
many hackers, with too many motives to establish even a range of
definitions. To be clear: simply being hackable is a measure of
'importance'.

For the same reason bank robbers don't rob day care centers, hackers
don't hack sites for which there is no reason to hack. Hacking can be
very time consuming. You make an investment in time. You expect some
return for your time.

Letting a worm or a trojan loose on some weenie too stupid to secure
his computer is not hacking. It's more like pestering.

The only safe assumption to make is that it *is* important enough for some
hacker, somewhere, to attempt an exploit. Ergo, the question should be: Is
my system open enough for some hacker to get in?

Wrong again Wally! There are no safe assumptions. One plays the odds.
That is reality. The odds are some schmuck's personal computer has
very little chance of being hacked.

Gimme a break. A simple free software firewall like
Zone Alarm or Kerio which monitors all port activity
in and out protects you from your computer ever being
used for denial of service attacks. Besides, DOS attacks
are not initiated by an individual hacker hacking into
one computer after another. It takes more than a handful
of computer to mount a DOS attack.

Unfortunately this is untrue.
Hackers regularly hack into any old computer to initiate DOS attacks.
Your computer is used purely as a route thru which the attack is
run....you look like the bunny....and it isn't even Easter.

Get over it!

I can understand your request to know why.... I gave you an answer. I am
certainly not obligated to give you a detailed reason.

You know... I get similar comments regarding my level of personal security
from my friends... I really have a chuckle when It's from one of them with
a criminal record or victim of a theft.

Look... I appreciate your efforts to reassure me that the world is a kinder

You're wasting oxygen!

Understand this... I hold myself responsible for my safety.... and I'll take
the measures I deem appropriate to enforce that.

I hope that explains it for you.... and don't friggin' refer to me in any
way being like Gaynzy! Okay!
