Ohhh Noooo!!!

I just spent 1300.00 on the new Nikon 8800 and now I find out that my friends
chipped in on a Canon 20D for my 42nd birthday. What will I do with the
Nikon???? The Canon costs nearly 2K and is certainly a step up.
Damn, sometimes good luck and great friends can be frustrating!

Royal camera is famous for grey market stuff. Best real price on the 8800 is
809.00, but with extras it's about 1100-1600.
You SURE know your stuff!!!!

I can get it a bit cheaper, but you might want to read some of the comments
about these sellers on PP website. It's just too risky. And I paid 40 dollars
more from a real store. In addition to that, the extras offered on that site
are garbage/useless.

And I bet she doesn't own a very good digital camera of camcorder either.
Asside from the 20D I also own a Sony PD150 and TVR950. I'm about to sell off
my Leica stuff finally as they are worth more than 2 years of Scotty Potti's
salary.
Your wife probably has some crappy old film cameras and a consumerish 500

WRONG AGAIN, LOCO!!!

Circuit City = 2 weeks
Tri State Camera = 10 Days
B&H Photo = 2 weeks
Focus Camera = 10 days

Need I go on...? All of the above are top Nikon Auth. sales Centers. B&H is one
of the top pro outlets in the country for Nikon.
I called Tri State and even though I'm three days over, they'll take the 8800
back. I'll probably just exchange it for a smaller 3rd camera and a 2nd Canon
lens.

Sounds like your going to have 2 low end cameras. Go ahead and sell
them both on ebay and get a nice camera.

For my 42 birthday last January, I got a Hasselblad H1 645AF with a
80mm f/2.8 Lens.

Still having a hard time parting with my old Canon FTb its been a

Actually, with the really high cost of the Canon with it's two lenses, I'm

Very funny! I actually plan to screen media carefully for him. Suzanne and I
are both readers and would like him to avoid the TV addiction for as long as
possible. When the time is right he'll watch Jason and the Argonauts long
before he sees a Harry Potter movie.

The Rebel is not very good. I had one briefly. She would also need a proper
photo printer and better still a Dye Sub unit. It takes time to get good
results from digital cameras. If she returned them, she didn't take the time
to learn them. Two or three weeks doesn't cut it. Pro's are certainly getting
great results from even 5 MP cameras.

Honestly, the Pro can take really great pics with some practice. A lot rides on
how you print them.
My new Nikon 8800 is 8 MP. I've already taken some greats shots...but it's easy
enough to get it wrong, especially with the focusing. I'm glad the 20D has true
manual focus.
Your wife should take another crack at it and take her time. An Epson R300M
will deliver excellent 8X10s as will the 800. They are terrible for regular
text printing though.

Bwahahahaha! At 8 MP? You mean "great" like we used to get out of the old
16mm films? Great if you don't mind buildings that look like they're
falling over backward? Spend some time with full size cameras then tell us
about "great".

Thom Stewart November 9th 04 08:16 PM

Nutsy,

Pro's can get good pictures with a pin hole camera. It take's F--K up
Amateurs to take lousy pictures with good cameras.

By the way, why don't you buy cameras like you do Boats? All that money
for only a picture when a boat can be a case of life and death for you
and your family. It doesn't show a very good sense of Piority, does it?
